Bengaluru, Jul 21: Continuing to crack the whip on officials of the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison here, the State government on Thursday shunted out Prison Superintendent R Anitha to Dharwad prison. P S Ramesh, incumbent Superintend at Dharwad prison, has been posted in place of Anitha here.Jailofficial

Anitha’s transfer came a day after the special enquiry team headed by retired IAS officer Vinay Kumar visited the Parappana Agrahara prison on Wednesday. Sources said Anitha was in charge of the cells where AIADMK (Amma) leader V K Sasikala, serving sentence in a disproportionate assets case, is lodged. Former DIG Prisons D Roopa, who was also transferred, had alleged that Sasikala was provided preferential treatment at the prison. Chief Superintendent Krishna Kumar has been transferred out without posting.

Newly posted Additional Director General of Prisons N S Megharikh visited Parappana Agrahara prison on Thursday. This was his first visit to the central jail after taking charge as head of the prisons department. Megharikh interacted with a few prisoners and held a meeting with the prison officials. Speaking to the media, Megharikh said that he would extend full support to the enquiry team.

“I am planning to make Parappana Agrahara a model prison,'' Megharikh asserted, adding that he did not find any irregularities in the prison during his visit. He said he had directed the officials to follow the prison manual.

AIADMK (Amma) Deputy General Secretary T T V Dhinakaran visited the central jail on Thursday but was not allowed to meet Sasikala. Supporters of Dhinakaran argued with the police personnel and jail staff but were told that a visit cannot be allowed without prior permission. Dhinakaran returned stating he would come back on Friday with permission.

Speaking to the media, Dhinakaran denied allegations that a special roomy cell and other facilities were provided to Sasikala. He clarified that they were only requesting shifting of their leader to some other prison.

Newsroom, Feb 2: American business magnate Bill Gates has congratulated her daughter Jennifer Gates after she announced her engagement to her Muslim boyfriend Nayel Nassar.

“I am completely thrilled! Congratulations, @jenniferkgates and @nayelnassar”, commented the Microsoft boss to her daughter’s surprise Instagram story.

The proposal took place on a ski getaway. "Nayel Nassar, you are one of a kind. Absolutely swept me off my feet this past weekend, surprising me in the most meaningful location over one of our many shared passions," she wrote on Instagram. The pair does have one very significant shared passion - horses.

Nassar, 29, is a showjumper. Gates, 23, has famously grown up an equestrian, and has even competed against Steve Jobs' daughter.

In October, Nassar helped Egypt qualify for Tokyo 2020 - Egypt's first Olympic equestrian qualification in 60 years. He has been jumping since he was 10 years old and has the accolades to show for it - he has taken first place in a number of notable competitions, including the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup.

Nassar was born in Chicago to Egyptian parents and spent many of his formative years in Kuwait, where his well-to-do parents run an architecture and design firm, according to People. He is fluent in English, Arabic, and French.

He moved back to the US in 2009 and graduated from Stanford with an economics degree in 2013 - later, he supported Gates at her own Stanford graduation in 2018.

The couple received well wishes from many notable personalities on each of their Instagram posts, including comments from Bill and Melinda Gates, Georgina Bloomberg, and Eve Jobs.
