Jat Quota Agitation: 3 Haryana civil service officers, 10 DSPs suspended

Chandigarh, May 22: Three Haryana Civil Service officers and 10 DSP rank officers were suspended today, a week after a government-appointed Committee report found "deliberate negligence" on part of 90 officials, including IAS and IPS officers, during the Jat quota agitation in February.

The three civil service officers who have been suspended are Sub Divisional Magistrate (Jhajjar) Pankaj Setia, SDM (Hansi) Jagdeep Singh and SDM (Gohana) Dharmendra Singh (currently posted as SDM Ferozepur Jhirka), official sources said today.

During the period of suspension, their headquarters would be in the office of Chief Secretary in Services-I Branch at Chandigarh. They would not leave the headquarters without obtaining prior permission of the Chief Secretary, they said.

The suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSPs) are Sukhbir Singh, DSP, State Crime Bureau (SCB), earlier posted as DSP, Rohtak at Kalanaur; Surender Singh, DSP, SCB, earlier posted as DSP, Meham; Vijender Singh, DSP, Headquarters Rohtak and Pawan Kumar, DSP, Rohtak.

Other suspended police officers are Jagat Singh, DSP, Beri, Sandeep Malik, DSP, CID, earlier posted as DSP Hansi, Rajbir Singh, DSP Loharu and Vinod Kumar, ACP, Faridabad, earlier posted as DSP, Gohana.

Sunil Kumar, DSP, Sonipat and Satish Kumar, DSP Kharkhoda, earlier posted as DSP, Ganaur have also been suspended, the spokesman said.

On May 17, Haryana government had shunted out its Additional Chief Secretary (Home), PK Das, barely days after the former Prakash Singh Committee submitted its report to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Mr Das was replaced by senior IAS officer Ram Niwas.

Around 90 officers were indicted for "deliberate negligence" during the Jat quota agitation by Prakash Singh Committee and adverse comments were made against them in its report submitted to the chief minister on May 13.

The committee was appointed on February 25 to inquire into the alleged acts of omission and commission by officials during the agitation from February 7 to 22.

The committee had inquired into the role of officers starting from the rank of sub-inspector to SP and naib tehsildar or duty magistrate to the rank of deputy commissioner in the violence-affected districts of Rohtak, Jhajjar, Jind, Hisar, Kaithal, Bhiwani, Sonepat and Panipat.

30 people were killed in violence and there was extensive damage to properties during the stir.

Kozhikode, Aug 8: Minister of State (Mos) for External Affairs V Muraleedharan on Saturday reached Kozhikode where Air India Express flight (IX-1344) crash-landed yesterday. 

He is likely to meet those injured in the crash and their family members.

At least 17 people including two pilots have lost their lives in the incident. However, the four-cabin crew members are safe, said the Air India Express in a statement. 

The injured are admitted to hospitals in Malappuram and Kozhikode, as per the state government officials.

Informing about his visit to Kozhikode, Muraleedharan tweeted: "Taking off to #Calicut by @airindiain
special flight. Hope to visit the crash site at the Calicut Airport and also meet those injured in the crash and their family members."

Muraleedharan on Friday expressed grief after an Air India Express plane carrying 190 passengers including 10 infants skidded while landing at Karipur Airport in Kozhikode.

"Deeply anguished to hear about the mishap in Calicut airport involving the flight from Dubai to Calicut. Was informed that the plane overshot the runway and seemingly nosedived," the Minister tweeted.

Gurugram, Jul 12: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that the whole world was appreciating India's successful fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking ahead of the mega tree plantation drive of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Officers' Training Academy in Kadarpur village here, the Home Minister also lauded the contribution of security forces in the battle against COVID-19 in the country.

"India is one of the most populous countries. Everyone thought how will a country like India battle COVID-19, there were apprehensions but today the whole world is witnessing how one of the most successful battles against COVID-19 has been fought here," the Home Minister said.

"In India's battle against COVID-19, all of our security forces are playing a huge role, nobody can deny it. Today, I salute these corona warriors. They have proved that they not only know how to fight terrorism but also against COVID with help of people," he added.

The Union Home Minister said that many jawans have given up their lives during the COVID-19 crisis phase and paid tributes to them.

"I have talked to families of those jawans and today once again I thank them, your sacrifice will not go waste. Whenever the history of the human race's fight against COVID-19 is written, the contribution of India's security forces will be mentioned in golden ink," he said.

He also hailed the plantation drive and said that trees planted today should be taken care of by the jawans till they reach maturity, he added the trees chosen for plantation today consisted mostly those which had a long life and would help the generations to come.

Together the CAPFs have targeted to plant around 10 lakh tree saplings across the country today. Heads of all the CAPFs or their representatives were present in the event held at Gurugram.

New delhi, Feb 10: The Supreme Court on Monday upheld the constitutional validity of the SC/ST Amendment Act, 2018, and said a court can grant anticipatory bail only in cases where a prima facie case is not made out.

A bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra said a preliminary inquiry is not essential before lodging an FIR under the act and the approval of senior police officials is not needed.

Justice Ravindra Bhat, the other member of the bench, said in a concurring verdict that every citizen needs to treat fellow citizens equally and foster the concept of fraternity.

Justice Bhat said a court can quash the FIR if a prima facie case is not made out under the SC/ST Act and the liberal use of anticipatory bail will defeat the intention of Parliament.

The top court's verdict came on a batch of PILs challenging the validity of the SC/ST Amendment Act of 2018, which was brought to nullify the effect of the apex court's 2018 ruling, which had diluted the provisions of the stringent Act.
