JDS-Congress to hold workers meet in Tumkur from April 1

Tumkur, Mar 28: A meeting of Janata Dal(Secular) (JDS) and Congress leaders has decided to hold the joint meeting of their workers across the parliamentary constituency from April 1.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting here on Wednesday, which was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Paarmeshwar and state Cabinet Minister SR Srinivas, said Ramesh Babu, a JD(S) leader.

Babu said: “We have decided to conduct the meeting of Congress and JD(S) workers in eight assembly segments from April 1. Our candidate HD Deve Gowda and other leaders will address the public meetings on April 4 and 5.”

He also said that a joint coordination committee has been formed to take care of the elections. The committee includes Deputy Chief Minister Parameshwara, Cabinet Minister Srinivas, former minister D Nagarajaiah, former MLAs Shafi Ahamed and Shadakshari.

The relations between Congress and JD(S) soured further after HD Deve Gowda and Congress sitting MP SP Muddahanumegowda filed their nomination papers from Tumkur parliamentary constituency on March 25.

Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka will be held in two phases, starting from April 18. The voting in Karnataka will take place for 28 Lok Sabha seats. The counting of votes will be done on May 23.

Bengaluru, Aug 1: The Karnataka government on Friday brought in Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Kamal Pant as the Bengaluru police Commissioner in a reshuffle of police personnel.

Pant comes in as the city police Commissioner in place of Bhaskar Rao.

According to a government order, Rao will handle internal security as ADGP, a post which was lying vacant due to the promotion of P S Sandhu.

Along with the two officials, ADGP B Dayananda who was in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department and Economic Offences, has been made the new intelligence chief.

Davanagere, Jul 4: Referring to allegations made by former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's charge about corruption while purchasing COVID-19 equipment, Health Minister B Sriramulu said the state government is ready for any kind of probe in this regard.

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, he said the government has maintained accounts for each purchase of equipment related to Covid-19. 

"So, Congress leader's allegations are far from the truth. Siddaramaiah has vast political experience. It is unbecoming of such a leader to make ridiculous allegations. The government is ready to release white paper on purchase of equipment related to Covid-19," he said.

He said Karnataka stands third in the country in collection of throat swabs and examination of people related to Covid-19. The entire country has hailed Karnataka's role in containing Covid-19, Sriramulu he added.

Mysuru, Mar 6: A BJP worker was stabbed to death by unidentified persons at his apartment in Mysore in the early hours of Friday, police said.

Anand in his early thirties, was reportedly attacked with a broken beer bottle shortly after he returned home following his late night birthday party, police added.

Following information from neighbours in the apartment, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

"The murder took place between 3 am and 4 am. We are investigating who was with him at the time and what was the motive behind the killing," Mysuru police Commissioner Dr Chandragupta told reporters.

Police said further investigations are on to ascertain the motive and people behind the killing.
