JD(S) convinces its allies to field candidates in 40 seats to snatch Cong votes

The Janata Dal (Secular), which has forged pre-poll alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Nationalist Congress Party, has reportedly convinced its allies to field their candidates at least in 40 constituencies with the intention of snatching votes from Congress party.

JD(S) state president and H D Kumaraswamy has admitted that his party would ask its alliance partners to contest in 40 seats out of the 224.

In an interview, Kumaraswamy, who had formed government with the BJP in the past, said that JD(S) and allies were trying to get a vote share of about 30 per cent. The party is also open to tie-ups with farmers’ groups since one of the major planks with which the JD(S) is going to polls this time is agrarian issues, including farm loan waiver, he added.

While the BSP will be contesting in 20 constituencies, which have been identified, the NCP will contest in five to seven constituencies in the Bombay Karnataka region. The JD(S) is also in talks with the Left parties to join an alliance which is expected to become an alternative to the Congress.

According to Mr. Kumaraswamy, this is for the first time that the JD(S) is entering a pre-poll alliance. “We had always gone to election alone since 1999 when we made our election debut and contested almost all of the 224 seats.

Bengaluru,  Jul 12: In view of the rising COVID-19 cases in Bengaluru, a complete lockdown will be implemented in Bengaluru City and Bengaluru Rural areas from 8 pm on July 14 to 5 am on July 22.

"Essentials such as hospitals, groceries, milk, fruit, vegetables, medicines will be available during this period. In addition, medical and postgraduate examinations will happen as already scheduled," the Karnataka CMO informed.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa appealed: "Co-operate with all social security policies, wear masks, and abide by government-issued lock-down guidelines for buying everyday items. Your collaboration is essential to controlling the spread of COVID-19 infection."

"I would like to congratulate all Asha activists, medical and police personnel, officers, volunteers, journalists and all those who work directly and indirectly to control the spread of COVID-19 infection," he added.

Bengaluru, Mar 5: Karnataka government on Thursday set aside Rs 400 crore to construct twin towers building with 25 floors here at Anand Rao Circle to facilitate all government departments to function at one place.

"To facilitate all the Government Departments to function in one building, a "Twin-Towers" building with 25 storeys will be constructed at Arland Rao Circle, Bengaluru, with an expenditure of Rs 400 crore," said Karnataka Chief Minister Yediyurappa while presenting the budget in the state Assembly.

He further said that the road cross-over facility for pedestrians other than metro commuters will be provided through 24 metro stations.

"The construction of 56 km long Outer Ring Road - Airport Metro from Central Silk Board junction to Bengaluru International Airport via K R Puram and Hebbala at an estimated cost of Rs 14,500 crore will be commenced during the year 2020-21," he said.

Rs 1,000 crore budget each have been announced for the restoration of Bengaluru roads for two years, 276 Karnataka public school for their infrastructure development.

Mangaluru, Apr 12: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Saturday, April 11, welcomed the State government’s decision to permit fishing during the lockdown that’s now extended till April 30.

“We welcome the Centre’s decision to permit fishing during the lockdown. This directive comes as a huge relief for the fishing community,” Poojary told newsmen here.

Poojary informed that 14,000 boats will be deployed for fishing. Keeping the need for social distancing in mind only five crew members will be allowed on a boat. The boats can set sail in the morning and should return by evening.
