JD(S) likely to ask HDK to step down as CM

Bengaluru, Jul 7: The resignation by three JD(S) MLAs, within 48 hours of the party getting a new State president, has come as a shock for the party as it had not “expected such an extreme rebellion”.

Although the dissenting voice of the former JD(S) State president A.H. Vishwanath was being heard for sometime, the sudden decision by other two MLAs — K.C. Narayana Gowda and K. Gopalaiah — to resign has given the party a jolt.

Amid the crisis, although JD(S) national president H.D. Deve Gowda has maintained that he will wait for Assembly Speaker K.R. Ramesh to take a decision, sources in the party said that the JD(S) was contemplating asking Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to step down “before things further go out of hand”. The Chief Minister is currently in the U.S. on a personal visit and is expected back on Sunday.

“Before the party faces more humiliation, Mr. Deve Gowda is likely to ask Mr. Kumaraswamy to resign. The situation has become difficult now,” sources in the party said, and added that it could create a sympathy factor in his favour.

Speaking to mediapersons on Saturday, Mr. Deve Gowda claimed to be unaware of the development and said the legislators who resigned were still the “well-wishers and loyalists of the government”. He said, “Please wait. I do not want to react till the Speaker takes a decision.”

Adding that he does not know under what circumstances the legislators resigned, the former Prime Minister said, “The Speaker will certainly interact with them. I do not know what steps he is going to take. By then the Chief Minister will also come. I think there is no misunderstanding between the Speaker, the Chief Minister, and the people who have resigned. I am not bothered and not going to discriminate against the Congress or the JD(S). All are my well-wishers as well as the government’s.”

‘Things are difficult’

JD(S) national spokesperson Tanveer Ahmed, who admitted that “things are difficult” said, “In politics, the biggest factor is aspiration. Everybody is a senior leader, everybody is a tall leader and everybody wants to take things the way they want to. The MLAs have to understand that they had won from secular constituencies. The resignation is not easy and the Speaker is yet to accept it. There is a show of strength. We are optimistic.”

Staffer who shot elephant in Bandipur sacked, action initiated against forest dept employee

Bengaluru, Mar 12: Days after a video of an elephant being shot in Bandipur National Park went viral on social media, officials said that they have removed a staffer and initiated action against an employee of the Karnataka Forest Department in the matter.

According to officials, the incident took place on March 7.

"We have removed Rahim, temporary staffer, and initiated action against Umesh, a permanent employee of the Karnataka Forest Department, after an internal enquiry," Bandipur field director T Balchandra said.

While Rahim is said to have shot the charging elephant, Umesh reportedly made the video and shared it on social media.

Several couples get married on 'Lockdown Sunday' in Karnataka as govt permits pre-scheduled weddings

Bengaluru, May 24: A couple got married in Bengaluru today, even as Karnataka government has announced a complete lockdown on Sundays, as part of the fourth phase of COVID-19 shutdown till the end of this month.

The marriage ceremony on this Sunday was possible thanks to a clarification given by the state government for marriages, which has been already scheduled for May 24 and May 31 to be exempted from the Sunday complete lockdown.

At today's wedding, the rituals were performed with compliance of all guidelines including ensuring social distancing and capping the number of guests at 50.

Satish, the groom said, "Government has allowed weddings with up to 50 people in attendance but we decided to invite only 25 people to the ceremony".

Meanwhile, in the Honnali Honnali area of Davanagere, BJP MLA MP Renukacharya distributed masks to three newly-wed couples.

As per an earlier advisory issued by the State government more than 50 guests, no air conditioning, and the consumption of liquor and paan are among the guidelines to be followed for holding weddings in the state. Also, people aged above 65 and below 10 as well as pregnant women have been barred from participating in the event.

According to the advisory, sanitisers should be provided at the entry and other appropriate places at the venue. Also, thermal screening of all persons shall be conducted at the entry of the venue. The scanner should be held 3-15 cms away from a person's forehead.

Apart from this, the venue shall be "clean and hygienic," and a "nodal person shall be identified for overseeing the arrangements and coordination at the venue." Also, a list of attendees with contact details has to be maintained and all guests should have downloaded Aarogya Setu app.

Muslim Committee drops Jan 4 anti-CAA protest plan as cops refuse permission

Mangaluru, Jan 2: The Muslim Central Committee of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi has dropped its plan to stage a massive protest against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act and National Register of Citizens on January 4 at Mangaluru’s Nehru Maidan.

Addressing a press conference here today, committee chief K S Mohammed Masood made this announcement.

“All the 28 organisations that had decided to stage protest under the leadership of the Muslim Central Committee, have unanimously agreed to temporarily cancel the protest plan after the city police refused permission for the event,” he said.

Mr Masood requested the people, especially the youth, not to lose patience. “No one should head to Nehru Maidan on January 4 as Muslim leaders have unanimously decided to cancel the protest,” he urged.

S M Rasheed Haji, Y Abdulla Kunhi, Umar UH, Ibrahim Kodichal, B M Mumtaz Ali, Khasim H K, Mansoor Ahmed Azad and Asif Deals were present in the press meet.

Secondly, a few days back I wanted to contact Muslim central committee office to confirm if the protest Wil be there. I googled for the no, but the no. did not exist. Does that mean the Muslim central committee does not have an office or telephone no????

This only shows how organised we are.

Requesting Muslim central committee to get their house in order. Get more professional. Also consult people to utilise various platform to responsibly collect funds from so many ordinary bearys who want to donate money, but don't know whom to send it to.

We need an action committee to handle such situations. It must consist a battery of lawyers to fight the cases filed by the police.

If our leaders are old, they need to groom new leaders into the committee.

Moreover, it is important to question these so called leaders about their fecilitation program conducted for making kateel wen he won the election. Wat was the purpose of such fecilitation. Becoz I don't think he gives a damn when our community suffered. I question, whether all this is done in our name only to gain your contact and flourish ur business???
