JDS to support to Congress candidates in two Assembly by-election: Deve Gowda

Bengaluru, Apr 24: The Janata Dal(S) in Karnataka will not field its candidate for the Kundagol and Chincholi Assembly seats, for which by-elections will be held on May 19 as both the seats were won by coalition partner Congress and the party will support its candidate.

Speaking to newsmen, the JD(S) National president and the former prime minister H D Devegowda, informed that “In both the by-elections the party will extend its support to the Congress”.

Informing that Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy will take a decision on the issue, he said “our party workers will co-operate with the Congress to retain the seats for the ruling combine”.

Mangaluru, Apr 29: District in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Wednesday inaugurated a mobile fever clinic to cure COVID-19 patients.

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has converted one of its buses into a clinic in Mangaluru to treat COVID-19 patients.

The mobile fever clinic has a bed for the patient and a cabin for the doctor. There is also a seating facility, medicine box, wash-basin, sanitizer, soap oil, a separate water facility, and fans.

Bengaluru, Aug 9: A youth was killed and three others injured as a pillar of an old temple on the outskirts of Bengaluru fell on them as they and five others dug under it in search of treasure, police said on Saturday.

"One treasure hunter got crushed under a pillar, three suffered injuries and have been hospitalised while five are on the run," a police official said.

The incident occurred at a centuries-old Anjaneya temple in Hindiganala village near Hoskote, around 50 km away from the city, on Thursday night.

Suresh, 23, got crushed to death while Manjunath, 23, Srinivas, 22, and Sebastian Raja Rathna, 22, were injured.

Following the unexpected accident, the injured treasure hunters called a 108 ambulance, leading to the entire incident coming to light.

The ambulance staff helped the youth stuck under the temple pillars and took them to hospital.

Police have registered a case under various sections of the Ancient Monuments Act, the Karnataka Treasure Trove Act, and the Indian Penal Code.

According to the official, local youth the village as well as a nearby village were involved in the hunt.

Police are on the lookout for the five treasure hunters on the run.

However, the police official said that it was an old ruined temple and there was nothing there.

Bengaluru, Jun 8: Normal life is slowly returning to normal across Karnataka with the state government further easing the restrictions by throwing open places of worship, hotels, malls for the public.

Despite these places being opened after a gap of more than two months, the places wore a deserted look as the people are and cautious and not ready to take of risk of venturing out amid the ongoing Corona threat.

"Business is not as heavy as expected though it was allowed after a gap of almost three months. You can see for yourself the crowd, it is not what it should have been in a commercial area like this prior to the imposition of lockdown. However, hope it will improve", a Cloth merchant B Ramesh told UNI when asked for his reaction.
