JDS will face bypolls without Cong; we can win 8-10 seats: Kumaraswamy

Mysuru, Sept 21: Janata Dal (Secular) will field its own candidates for all the 15 assembly segments for upcoming by-elections without forging any alliance with Congress, according to former chief minister and party leader H D Kumaraswamy.

Speaking to reporters here he expressed confidence on winning eight to 10 assembly segments and also predicted political changes in the state after the results of the by-polls. “BJP government will collapse if JD(S) and Congress party win more seats,” Kumaraswamy said.

Kumaraswamy also said that he has no hesitation to claim that he has given bad governance. “JD(S) party workers maintained distance from me as we formed the government with Congress. I formed the government with the support of Congress only to waive off the farmers' loan,” Kumaraswamy claimed.

Kumaraswamy alleged that a few Congress leaders in the state are conspiring to finish JD(S). “For them, JD(S) is the first enemy than BJP. State Congress leaders have decided not to join hands with JD(S) and even we don’t desire to make an alliance with Congress,” Kumaraswamy said.

JD(S) will go for people highlighting the failure of the BJP government in managing the flood situation. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi spends thousands of crores for his America tour but he has failed to come for the rescue of flood victims. BJP cuts tax rate for corporate companies but, they don’t have money for flood victims. Flood victims at Belagavi, Bagalkot, Haveri districts, have taken shelter at bus stands”, he asked.

Bengaluru, May 23: It was a stampede-like situation near Palace Grounds in Bengaluru on Saturday afternoon. The incident took place after hundreds of migrants gathered and jostled to gain entry. The situation raises concerns as no social distancing norms were followed.

According to Chetan Singh Rathore, DCP Central, the reason behind the stampede-like situation was an en masse message. "What we heard was that an en masse message has been conveyed to the people of Manipur and Odisha that they would be able to go home on trains on Saturday. The message did not consider the capacity of the train which is only 1500 seating capacity for Manipur train and 1500 for Odisha train," he told media.

Singh further added, "But the people gathered were around 3000 in number for the Manipur train and 5000 for the Odisha train. Passengers with tickets and requisites were allowed to travel while others were asked to return home and wait for their turn to travel back home."

The state of Karnataka has eased lockdown restrictions across, allowing state transport services to run. Lately, the government has been running special Shramik trains from Karnataka to ferry migrant workers back to their hometowns.

Mangaluru, May 2:  Dakshina Kannada district administration has taken steps to quarantine people returning after having lost their jobs in foreign countries.

Marriages hall, general halls and hostels are being identified for the purpose, a source said.

Official said that Coronavirus scare also has forced many people from foreign countries, those in including Gulf countries, to return to their native villages.

The Gulf countries are also sending back those staying illegally there. 

Once the flight services resume, thousands of people are likely to return to the country.

Meanwhile, DK deputy commissioner Karnataka held a video conference with Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.

Mangaluru, Apr 20: As Wenlock hospital has been converted into corona hospital, all the heads of private medical college hospitals have been instructed to treat Wenlock Hospital's out patients and in patients at a government hospital fare or at the charges of Wenlock Hospital, said Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh on Sunday.

Treatment is also been given at Bijai, Yekkur, Kulur, Jeppu, Surathkal, Kulai, Padil, Shaktinagar, Bengre and Bunder Primary Health Centers. Patients with MLC (Medico Legal Case) or Police Case may seek treatment at a private medical college or city primary center.

Some private hospitals have already agreed to provide free dialysis services, as requested by the government.
