‘Jeena mushkil kar doongi’: BJP MP warns IAS officer for anti-encroachment drive

Lucknow, Dec 13: A BJP Lok Sabha member was caught on camera threatening an IAS officer over an 'anti-encroachment' drive in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district.

''Jeena mushkil kar doongi...ye Barabanki hai,'' (I will make life difficult for you...this is Barabanki), Priyanka Singh Rawat, who represents Barabanki in the Lok Sabha, was heard telling Ajai Kumar Dwivedi, a trainee IAS officer currently posted as sub-divisional magistrate in the district.

According to the sources Dwivedi along with a team of the revenue department had gone to Chaila village following complaints that some people had grabbed government land there and had also sowed crops.

Sources said that a local BJP leader had encroached upon the government land, which actually belonged to a government school.

The local villagers protested the SDM's attempts to remove encroachment from the land and raised anti-government slogans.

Rawat, who happened to be passing by, on recieving information reached the spot. She confronted the SDM and sought explanation from him.

Sources said that the MP lost her cool and threatened the officer with dire consequences if he did not ''change'' his ''attitude'', when the latter walked toward his vehicle apparently to leave the spot.

''Dimag kharab hai tumhara...tameez naam ki cheez nahin hai....abhi training kar rahe ho....apna attitude change kar lo,'' (Have you gone mad.....do you have courtesy....you are undergoing training...change your attitude,'' she was heard telling the SDM on camera.

Rawat was also heard telling the official that she would make life difficult for her in the district. All attempts by the SDM to put forth his side of the story to the MP proved futile as she was not ready to listen.

Earlier, BJP leaders have publicly threatened government officials. A few months back senior BJP leader and party MLA from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's home town of Gorakhpur Radhamohan Das Agarwal had publicly rebuked a lady IPS officer bringing her to tears.

New Delhi Aug 6: In a new twist in the Vijay Mallya case, a certain document connected with the case in the Supreme Court has gone missing from the apex court files. 

A bench comprising Justices U.U. Lalit and Ashok Bhushan adjourned the hearing to August 20.

It was hearing the review plea filed by Mallya against a July 14, 2017 judgment wherein he was found guilty of contempt for not paying Rs 9,000 crore dues to banks despite repeated directions, although he had transferred $40 million to his children.

The bench was looking for a reply on an intervention application, which it seemed has gone missing from the case papers.Parties involved in the case sought more time to file fresh copies.

On June 19, the Supreme Court sought explanation from its registry regarding Mallya's appeal against the May 2017 conviction in the contempt case for not repaying Rs 9,000 crore dues to banks not listed for the last 3 years.

A bench comprising Justices Lalit and Bhushan had asked the Registry to furnish all the details including names of the officials who had dealt with the file concerning the Review Petition for last three years.

The bench said according to the record, placed before it, the review petition was not listed before the court for last three years. "Before we deal with the submissions raised in the Review Petition, we direct the Registry to explain why the Review Petition was not listed before the concerned Court for last three years," said the bench.In May 2017, the apex court held him guilty of contempt of court for transferring $40 million to his children, and ordered him to appear on July 10 to argue on the quantum of punishment.

The bench said let the explanation be furnished within two weeks. "The Review Petition shall, thereafter, be considered on merits," it added.In 2017, the apex court passed the order on a contempt petition against Mallya by a consortium of banks led by the SBI. 

The banks claimed Mallya transferred $40 million from Daigeo to his children's accounts, and did not use this money to clear his debt. Banks cited this as violation of judicial orders.

Mar 5: The Kerala government has given its nod to a proposal aimed at encouraging students aged between 18 and 25 years to take up part-time jobs while pursuing education so as to help them gain work experience and hone their skills.

The government has decided to accept the proposal as a policy decision at the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, an official press release said.

The aim is to ensure that in a fiscal, 90 days of work is assured for students in government departments, local body organisations, PSUs and private companies.

This will help in developing a work culture among students.

Honorariums will be given to students by the organisations employing them part-time, the release said.

Students aged between 18 and 25 years will be permitted to become part of the scheme which will help them to gain work experience and hone their skills, the release added.

In another decision, the government decided to release Rs 26 crore from the Chief Minister's disaster relief fund for providing compensation to farmers who suffered crop loss during the 2018 floods.

Moscow, Aug 7: Russia will register its first vaccine against the coronavirus on August 12, Deputy Health Minister Oleg Gridnev said on Friday.

The vaccine has been developed jointly by the Gamaleya Research Institute and the Russian Defence Ministry.

"The vaccine developed by the Gamaleya centre will be registered on August 12. At the moment, the last, third, stage is underway. The trials are extremely important. We have to understand that the vaccine must be safe. Medical professionals and senior citizens will be the first to get vaccinated," Gridnev told reporters at the opening of a cancer centre building in the city of Ufa.

According to the minister, the effectiveness of the vaccine will be judged when the population immunity has formed.

Clinical trials of the vaccine began on June 18 and included 38 volunteers. All of the participants developed immunity. 

The first group was discharged on July 15 and the second group on July 20.
