J&K govt: Mehbooba to take call when BJP 'convinces' her

Srinagar, Jan 31: PDP today kept the guessing game on over the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir even as its chief Mehbooba Mufti met senior leaders and made it clear that she will decide only after being "convinced" that BJP will take the objective of the alliance to its logical conclusion. mehbooba-mufti

The party, however, termed as "presumption" whether fresh elections could be called in the state which is under Governor's Rule since January 8, imposed a day after then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passed away.

Mehbooba, who is seen as the successor to her late father as Chief Minister, held four-hour long meeting with party leaders, who included MPs, MLAs, zonal presidents and block presidents, on the issue of government formation and "how to take forward Mufti's vision of peace and development."

One MP Tariq Karra, who has openly been opposing alliance with BJP, was not present in the meeting.

The government formation is not stuck but "it's a process that will carry on", party leader Naeem Akhtar said.

Giving details of the meeting, he said Mehbooba, who has already been authorized by the party to take a decision on government formation, told the meeting that she is "ready to take a call on it once she is convinced that the purpose and the objective of the alliance that Mufti had forged with Prime Minister Narendra Modi" would be taken to its logical conclusion.

The PDP chief said the "purpose of that (alliance) was not limited to government formation, but it was to take Jammu and Kashmir out of the trouble that it has faced for most part of its history".

For Mufti, the alliance was based on "trust and belief that it will translate into real relief for the people of the state which ultimately would also serve the national interest and also bring peace into the sub-continent between India and Pakistan," Mehbooba told the meeting held at her residence.

"That is why he (Mufti) always spoke about Indo-Pak relations even on his death bed and the other things which include the economic side of it so that the state is taken out of its problems," Akhtar said.

PDP would take no time to form the government with BJP "once we believe that the country believes in us, they repose their trust in us and we can carry forward the agenda which has a strong political side to it, which has the economic side to it and we are able to carry that forward, we will not take time (to form government)," Akhtar said.

"Mehbooba will take a call on this once she is sure that we can purposefully carry forward that agenda," he said.

PDP, with 27 MLAs in the 87-member Assembly and BJP with 25 legislators, ran a coalition government headed by Mufti Sayeed for 10 months before his demise on January 7.
Akhtar said PDP was not demanding anything from the BJP or the Centre as they are aware of the problems of the state.

"We are not demanding anything. They know where the implementation is needed and government of India, the BJP, is more aware of the problems of Jammu and Kashmir than we are," he said.

"Jammu and Kashmir is not our monopoly. It is the problem of entire country and the government of India knows what to do and how to do about it," Akhtar said.

Responding to questions, he said, "Mehbooba will take a call, surely, on the basis of 'Agenda of Alliance' once she is convinced and the party is convinced that the trust reposed by us in the entire country through that document (Agenda for Alliance) is reciprocated."

The PDP leader said "the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the government that comes into being in the state" should be "worthy of that trust and they (should) think the government of India, the people of India trust us with our destinies and the Agenda that has been set by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in alliance with the other party can be carried forward to its logical conclusion."

He said the purpose of alliance with the BJP was not just to form the government but to carry forward the agenda set by the late chief minister.

"The purpose of alliance was not just to form the government. It was beyond that and the government formation was only a component of that," the PDP leader said.

The PDP leader said though he was not authorized to say anything about the issues or whether any BJP leader was formally in touch with the party leadership, "there are issues which the government of India, the BJP, is aware of. And those issues are not confined to government formation."

He said, "it is not about courtesies or personal conduct but about the issues that we feel are necessary to be addressed for the betterment of the people of the state and the primary need of reposing trust in the people of the state. The issues are known to everybody."

Akhtar said the basic aim of the today's meeting was to discuss the party affairs and the how to take forward Mufti’s vision of peace and development.

"This was the agenda, but there was a talk about government formation as well and it became inevitable to discuss that in view of the ideas and views expressed by various leaders," he said.

Asked whether the party was preparing for fresh elections, Akhtar said "we have not said that. That is your presumption."

Muslim population rose in India because they got 'special rights': Yogi Adityanath

Jan 15: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Tuesday that the Muslim population in India increased manifold since the partition because they were given special rights and facilities, according to a report by The Indian Express.

"The Muslim population in India has increased manifold since 1947, it has gone up by seven to eight times. No one has any objection. If they, as citizens of the country, work for development, they are welcome. Their population has increased because they have been given special rights and facilities. All possible steps were taken to ensure their growth," Adityanath said while addressing a rally in Gaya organised by the BJP in support of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

He asked the audience, "But what happened in Pakistan?" Claiming that the Hindu population in Pakistan had decreased since 1947, he asked why it was so.

Yogi said that the countrywide anti-CAA protests are a "conspiracy" hatched from afar by those resentful of a united and grand India and these are being aided by a "crooked" opposition. He further charged that those opposing the legislation were committing the "paap" (sin) of working against national interests.

"For taking such a step, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah deserve acclaim. Instead, they are being attacked", Yogi lamented.

He himself contradicts his statements. He claims the Muslim population rose 8-9 (according to him) times since 1947. If he was educated its simple 73 years have passed the population grows. Still, the Muslim population is only a minority against the majority. He talks about special rights and facilities given yes agreed but not by him it's by the Constitution of India and for all the minorities. So it's not you its Constitution of India. The majority of the people are against the act CAA is against the very fundamental of the Constitution of India which PM & HM are taking away from the people. If you disagree, disrespect, go against it then you are against the country itself in Hindi deshdruhi.

Aligarh mechanic's son Mohammad Shadab tops at US high school

Aligarh, Jul 20: The son of a motor mechanic in Aligarh, who had received a scholarship, topped at his high school in the United States.

Mohammad Shadab, son of the motor mechanic, told ANI, "Last year, I received the Kennedy-Lugar youth exchange scholarship worth Rs 20 lakh from the US government. Following this, I went to the States to pursue my high school education."

Out of 800 students, Shadab was also selected Student of the Month at his school. On his achievement, he said, "It was an achievement for me to be awarded this tag."

"I have worked really hard to top the high school," Shabad said.

Shadab said, "The condition at home was not good and it is still not that good. I want to support my parents and make them feel proud."
He also thanked the Indian government. "I am thankful to the Indian government for making me the flag-bearer in another county and choosing me for this scholarship."

Shabad's father, Arshad Noor, who is working as a motor mechanic for the past 25 years, said, "We had sent him to the US for his education and I am happy that he topped at the school."
On being asked about his son, Arshad said, "I want my son to become an IAS officer and serve the country."

But Shadab expressed the desire to work at the United Nations as a human rights officer.

First patient to receive plasma therapy in UP dies of heart attack

Lucknow, May 9: The first patient to receive plasma therapy as an experimental treatment for coronavirus infection in Uttar Pradesh died following a heart attack on Saturday.

The patient, a 58-year-old doctor, was admitted at the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) here.

The doctor, who was on ventilator since the last 14 days, died on Saturday evening following a heart attack, KGMU Vice-Chancellor M L B Bhatt said.

Since he had high blood pressure and diabetes, he was under the continuous observation of doctors in the isolation ward, Bhatt said.

“The patient was in a stable condition. His lungs had improved, but he later developed urinary tract infection. Two reports of his samples came out as negative (for COVID-19) today,” the vice-chancellor said.

“He, however, suffered a heart attack around 5 pm. Despite all efforts, he could not be saved,” he said.

The doctor from Orai in Uttar Pradesh was administered plasma therapy at the state-run KGMU on April 26. He was administered the plasma donated by a doctor from Canada who was the first COVID-19 patient admitted at the hospital and later recovered.

Tulika Chandra of Blood Transfusion Department, KGMU said, "When the patient was given plasma therapy, his condition was very bad. His lungs, however, improved. But as he was an old patient with diabetes, he was kept on the ventilator.”

Convalescent Plasma Therapy is an experimental procedure for treating COVID-19 patients. In this treatment, plasma, a blood component, from a cured patient is transfused to a critically ill coronavirus patient.

The blood of a person who has recovered from COVID-19 develops antibodies to fight the virus. This therapy uses the antibodies from the blood of a cured patient to treat another critical patient.

The Union health ministry, however, had advised against considering the therapy to be a regular treatment for coronavirus, adding it should be used for research and trial purposes till there is a piece of robust scientific evidence to support its efficacy.
