Journalist Ravi Belagere held on charge of giving supari to kill his colleague

Bengaluru, Dec 8: Ravi Belagere, the editor of ‘Hai Bangalore', who pioneered yellow journalism in Karnataka, was detained on Friday by the CCB police on charges of giving supari (contract) to a sharp shooter to one of the staff of his own Kannada weekly.

A CCB police team has already reached his residence in Padmanabhanagar and is questioning him in connection with the case. Sources said that he will be formally arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy and produced before a court soon.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) N Sateesh Kumar said that the CCB police had recently arrested a sharp shooter, Tahir, from a lodge in Parappana Agrahara. "Based on his information, another gun dealer and sharp shooter, Shashidhar Mundevadigi, was arrested.

He confessed that Ravi Belagere had given supari to him to kill Sunil Heggaravalli, a journalist with 'Hai Bangalore'. Based on his statement, Ravi Belagere is being questioned."

Sources said that Heggaravalli had an illicit relationship with Belagere's second wife. This had upset Belagere and he had allegedly conspired to eliminate Heggaravalli.

13 more coronavirus cases in Karnataka; total 101 now

Bengaluru, Mar 31: The total number of positive cases of coronavirus reached 101 in Karnataka on Tuesday after 13 more positive cases were reported in the state from March 30 5 pm to 2 pm today.

The total number of 101 includes three deaths and 8 discharged/cured cases, Karnataka Health Department stated.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in India has risen to 1,397 after 146 new patients were reported in the last 24-hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday.

Of this little less than 1,400 cases, there are 1,238 active while 124 cured. The total figure also includes 35 fatalities.

Thief breaks into house in Uppinangady, falls asleep on sofa, caught

Mangaluru, Feb 27: An utterly unprofessional thief, who fell asleep after breaking into a house, was caught by the house owner and handed over to the police in the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada.

The hilarious incident took place on Wednesday in the one-storey, tiled-roof house owned by Sudarshan at Ullas Junction under the limits of Uppinangady police station.

The thief, who gained entry into the house by removing the roof-tiles, has been identified as Anil Sahani, a native of Bihar’s Majipur district. He was snoring on the sofa with a set of keys clutched in his hand when the house owner woke up in the morning.

The house owner, who was sure that the thief was drunk, woke him up by hitting him with a stick and then handed him over to the police.

According to police, the thief was tired after removing the tiles on Tuesday night and hence he decided to take a nap soon after entering the house.

He grabbed a bunch of keys kept near the TV stand and then lied down on the sofa. He woke up only when the house owner hit him with a stick the next morning.

6 deaths in a day take Dakshina Kannada’s covid toll to 36

Mangaluru, July 10: Dakshina Kannada, which has emerged as one of the hotspots of covid-19 in Karnataka, has recorded at least six novel coronavirus related deaths in past 24 hours.

According to sources, four people lost their battle with the novel coronavirus in Wenlock, the designated covid hospital.

A 35-year-old man from Hosabettu, who was tested positive for COVID-19 recently, died at the Wenlock COVID hospital in the morning.

A 58-year-old woman from Thokkottu, a 67-year-old man from Ullal and a 65-year-old man from Falnir also passed away in the same hospital.

Two other covid patients passed away in private hospitals.

With this, the total number of death of covid patients in the district rose to 36.
