Tumakruru, Dec 3: Dozens of journalists on Sunday staged a protest at the Town Hall Circle in Karnataka’s Tumakuru condemning the attack on a reporter of a private news channel by the leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party.
The protesters urged the state government to take necessary steps to arrest the BJP’s Tumakuru district general secretary Ravishankar alias Hebbakka Ravi and councillor of Tumakuru city corporation Nagesh alias Bavikatte Naganna, who reportedly assaulted the reporter Vagish.
The journalists from all the 10 taluks of Tumakuru district took part in the protest. They formed a human chain and blocked B.H. Road for around 30 minutes, disrupting traffic at the busy junction. They also raised slogans against the BJP.
On Saturday, a reporter of a private news channel was reportedly assaulted by BJP members Ravishankar and Nagesh, along with their supporters, at the private hotel in Tumakuru. A case was registered in New Extension Police Station.
