‘Kamanabillu’: Kuwait Kannada Koota celebrates Karnataka Rajyotsava

Kuwait: Karnataka Rajyotsava is a festival of the State of Karnataka celebrated to commemorate the formation of states based on the language spoken by the majority in the State. The Koota and its members eagerly look forward to this annual mega event that portrays the hidden talents of the members and the children of Kuwait Kannada Koota.

Friday, the 1st of November witnessed this year's event at the Kuwait University Auditorium located in its Shuwaikh campus.  After three months of rigorous practice sessions and dedication by the talented kids and Koota members, the much-awaited day arrived.  In the presence of the mega sponsor, Mr Vikram Prabhakar, the Founder and Managing Director of VSPL, a real estate and construction company in Bangalore;        Dr. Shashikiran G Prabhu the President, Shri Prabhu Achar the Vice-President, Shri. CA Ravikiran Prabhakar the Secretary and Shri. Ramesh Nayak the Treasurer of Kuwait Kannada Koota started the proceedings of the day’s event which was thematically named “KAMANABILLU” by lighting the auspicious lamp.

Shri T. S. Nagabharana, Chairperson, Kannada Development Authority and a renowned director, producer, actor and performer of Kannada cinema and a known name in television acting and directing, was the Guest of Honour of the event. Ambassador of India to Kuwait, His Excellency Shri. K. Jeeva Sagar graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

This year's State Festival was a theme-centric presentation named "Kamanabillu or the Rainbow" depicting various facets of life events, colours, enthusiasm, patriotism and knotty and witty performances. The Guest of Honour,  Shri. T S Nagabharana, who heads the Kannada Development Authority, congratulated the Kuwait Kannada Koota as a "true cultural ambassador by introducing Kannada Traditions and culture to the countrymen and the citizens of the host country, Kuwait.  Explaining the importance of visual media, the chief guests elaborated to the audience on the pros and cons of "the use of responsible media today”. He stressed that it is the parents' duty to ensure the meaningful use of visual media through smart phones by the children.

His Excellency appreciated and encouraged the Kuwait Kannada Koota for its programs and its involvement with the Indian Embassy in Kuwait during the National Programmes such as the Independence Day and the Republic Day celebrations.

All the sponsors of the event were commended and appreciated for the cooperation and support given for making the event a grand success. The role and efforts of other committees of the Koota were appreciated and duly acknowledged with a memento.

The day’s program ended with a Grand Finale aptly named as “Veera Kesarigalu” – a tribute to the Martyr’s of the Nation following a Vote of Thanks.

Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Chaiman Dr Sam Pitroda held video conference with senior IOC office bearers across Middle Eastern countries on 14th April 2020 to review the impact of COVID-19 pandemic among Indians residing in the region. Almost all speakers appreciated the efforts initiated and  implemented by  respective governments to contain spread of the deadly virus as well as measures taken towards welfare of the people affected by the lockdown. 

IOC Presidents, Mohammed Mansour - Bahrain, Abdullah Manjeri - Saudi Arabia, Dr J Ratan kunar - Oman and Girish kumar - Qatar, highlighted the quality treatment of patients and finacial aid provided by governments and other authorities. Bahrain IOC president Mansour , also  apprised about the 'Food for Needy' drive in Association with KHK Heroes foundation, initiated by HH Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa and quality treatments as well as financial aid to local and expat residents.

Anura Mathai, IOC  Global Event Coordinator, spoke about certain problems of Indians in the UAE. IOC Middle East Convener, Mansoor Palloor, emphasised and requested IOC Chairman to urge Indian government to arrange immediate repatriation of indians stranded in Gulf countries. AICC Secretary, Himanshu Vyas, IOC Secretary Dr Arathi Krishna, Dr Arshi Malik (Abha), Mohiuddin Sirajudeen (Jeddah), Advocate Joseph Palathara (Dammam) Prasad Kodru, Jayati Maitra Ziyad Ahmed (Qatar) and Khursheed Alam (Gen Secretary- Bahrain) also apprised the participants about various issues relevant to the pandemic and suggested further initiatives to be undertaken. 

Dr Sam Pitroda briefed about sustained and consolidated efforts by all IOC members  during this unprecedented situation facing the world and assured that he would convey IOC  concerns to the government and try his best to ensure all possible help is made available to all needy Indians.

Doha: Selvam aged 46 son of Subramanian hailing from Panakulam Village, Alangudi, Pudukkottai District in Tamilnadu province who worked as a technician, died in Qatar on April 24.

Due to challenging situation prevailing in both India & Qatar for body repatriation services, especially in Covid-19 atmosphere, Family is unable to progress further for past 2 months. At his stage Family of the deceased met Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Pudukkottai office bearers and requested to intervene and help out, and also agreed to bury the body in Qatar itself.

Hence, SDPI delegates communicated with well-known Indian Expatriate welfare Organization - Qatar Indian Social Forum (QISF). QISF General Secretary Basheer Ahamed, Secretary Abdullatheef Madikeri and team collected the required documents from the family of the deceased and managed to clear all the necessary formalities from the police department, Health Department, Embassy of India and Hamad Medical Corporation within a short period of time and arranged for a peaceful burial of Mr. Selvam in Dukhan cemetery.

Dubai: A blood donation drive was conducted by Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club (KSCC) at in Al Wasl Club Stadium here on Friday, 26th June 2020.

The drive started around 1:00 pm and continued till 4:00 pm as per schedule provided by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) Blood Donation Centre and 60 people donated blood to support the Blood Bank. The drive was well organised by maintaining social distance in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As blood cannot be produced but only can be donated, this drive will help many patients in need of blood during emergencies. Donors were also feeling proud and happy at this moment thinking of saving someone’s life.

DHA Blood Donation Centre staff carried out the screening and testing done in very well manner keeping social distancing during this pandemic. Volunteers of KSCC were also helping the staff to keep people in safe distance and to make this drive a success.

KSCC Manager Mr. Mohammad Shafi and other office bearers were present at the event venue. KSCC thanked the volunteers, Community Development of Authority (CDA), Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Blood Donation Centre, Government of Dubai and Al Wasl Club Stadium for making the event successful.
