Kargil martyrs Hasan Sab, Basappa Patil laid to rest in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Aug 1: The mortal remains of two soldiers from Karnataka who were killed during a landmine blast in Kargil sector along LoC last week were today laid to rest at their native villages.

1braveSubedar Basappa Patil and Sepoy Hasansab Khudavand were killed on July 29 while patrolling when they were caught in a mine blast, the Army had said.

Both their bodies were brought to their native villages via Goa today, where they were laid to rest with full military honors.

Hundreds of villagers from neighboring areas also bid a bid tearful adieu to the martyrs raising patriotic slogans, while their families were inconsolable.

Due to the effect of the blast Subedar Patil, who was the patrol leader and Sepoy Hasansab, the leading scout, suffered injuries which proved to be fatal, officials had said.

Subedar Patil hails from a village in Gokak taluk in Belagavi district and is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son.

Sepoy Hasansab is from a village in Navalagunda taluk in Dharwad district and is survived by his mother, father, a younger sister and brother.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has condoled the death of the two soldiers.

"My heartfelt salutes to martyrs Subedar Basappa Patil and Sepoy Hasansab who were killed in a landmine blast in Kargil region of Jammu and Kashmir."

"My deepest condolences to the bereaved families of these two brave soldiers," a post on Chief Minister's official Facebook page said.

Mangaluru, May 12: Air India will operate two flights - one each from Doha and Muscat - to bring back stranded Kannadigas from Qatar and Oman to Mangaluru next week. 

The flight from Muscat to Mangaluru will be operated on May 20 via Bengaluru. It will depart from Muscat International Airport at 1.15 pm local time and reach Bengaluru at 6.15 pm. After the layover at Bengaluru airport, the flight will take off at 7.15 pm and land at Mangaluru International Airport at around 8.10 pm.

Doha – Bengaluru – Mangaluru flight is will be operated May 22. The flight will take off from Doha at 1.30 pm local time and will land at Bengaluru at 8 pm. It will take off from Bengaluru at 9 pm and land at Mangaluru airport around 9.35 pm.

Bengaluru, April 3: Messages have been displayed outside mosques in Shivajinagar requesting people to offer Friday prayers at home during the lockdown imposed in the wake of the COVID-19 threat.

In light of the coronavirus outbreak, several Muslim organisations and mosques across various states have temporarily halted the congregational prayers.

The usually bustling Jama Masjid area, today, wore a deserted look.

One new positive case of COVID-19 was reported in Karnataka on Friday.

The patient is a 75-year-old man from Bagalkot and has been isolated at a designated hospital in Bagalkot, the state government said.

"Till date, 125 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the state, this includes three deaths and 11 discharges," it added.

The total number of coronavirus positive cases rose to 2301 in India on Friday, including 156 cured/discharged, 56 deaths and 1 migrated, as per the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Bengaluru, May 25: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds that lashed Bengaluru last evening left hundreds of trees uprooted near the BTM layout and other areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a thunderstorm accompanied with lightning in Karnataka for the next five days.

"Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning at will prevail at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, South Interior Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe and Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal," the IMD said its All Indian Weather Forecast Bulletin.

According to the forecasting agency, due to strong southerly wind from the Bay of Bengal to northeast India at lower tropospheric levels, heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls likely at isolated places over parts of northeastern states.

In addition to that heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over adjoining parts of east India during 24th-28th. "Heavy rainfall at isolated places over parts south peninsular India from May 26th-28th, 2020," the IMD said its All Indian Weather Forecast Bulletin.
