Bengaluru, Nov 1: Karnataka on Thursday became the 25th state in the country to launch the emergency response support system (ERSS). Toll-free number 112 will provide an all-in-one emergency service, including police, fire brigade and ambulances.
In the first phase, 112 will be operational across the state except in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad and Belagavi. Chief minister BS Yediyurappa who launched the application said the government will make all efforts to promote it.
RP Sharma, additional director general of police (communication, logistics and modernisation) said in the first phase, police (100), fire (101) and ambulance (108) will be integrated and there will be exclusive vehicles to attend to distress calls. Eventually, the helpline will become a platform for 21 services. The women and child's helpline will also be added.
