Karnataka CM meets seer, offers prayers at Suturu Mutt to mark Vijayadashami

Mysuru, Oct 8: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday met Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji and offered his prayers at 'Suturu Mutt' on the occasion of Vijayadashami here.

"All the necessary arrangements have been made for the world-famous 'Mysuru Dasara Jamboo Savari'. I wish everything goes well with the blessings of Chamundeshwari. I request the thousands of people who have come to watch this historical event enjoy the procession," said Yediyurappa while speaking to media here.

A large number of elephants have been decorated beautifully for the traditional 'Jamboo Savari' procession which will take place today on the occasion of grand Dasara festival in Mysuru.

The famous 4 kilometre-long procession is scheduled to be flagged off by Yediyurappa who is also scheduled to perform puja to the Nandi Dwaja in front of Mysuru Palace.

The main festivities will take place in the golden howdah of goddess Chamundeswari.

A total of 39 portrait floats will participate in the Jamboo Savari parade. Folk singers and dancers from various parts of the country have arrived in the state to participate in the Dasara festival.

Tourists, including foreigners, have been thronging Mysuru to witness the famed parade.

Hundreds of police personnel have been deployed in several parts of the city in order to ensure smooth conduct of the procession.

Mangaluru, Jun 29: Senior IPS officer Vikash Kumar Vikash today took over as the new commissioner of police of Mangaluru city.

He replaced Dr P S Harsha, who was recently transferred and posted as the Deputy Inspector General and Commissioner of Information and Public Relations.

Before coming to Mangaluru as city police chief, Vikash Kumar was the Deputy Inspector General of Police and Commander of Anti Naxal Force.

He had also served as the superintendent of police of Chikkamagaluru district.

Udupi, July 20: A youth, who was under depression after his business came to a halt due to lockdown, has killed self in Kundapura taluk of Udupi district. 

The deceased has been identified as Nitish Shetty (31), son of Prabhakar Shetty, a resident of Giliyaru in Kota area of Kundapura. 

Shetty was running a secondhand car business in Bengaluru. The business had completely stopped due to covid-19 lockdown. 

After returning to his hometown, he could not find any other job. Hence he was under depression. Hence on July 18 he handed himself to death in his house, police said. 

A case has been registered at jurisdictional Kota police station.

Bengaluru, Feb 13: 'Karnataka Bandh' call given by various Kannada organisation demanding implementation of Sarojini Mahashi report for ensuring job reservation to local people (Kannadigas) in the Private and government organisation, including industries, evoked mixed response in the State on Thursday.

The Bandh call was given by the “Karnataka Sanghatanegala Okkoota”, comprising a few factions of “Karnataka Rakshana Vedike” (KRV) and was backed by Ola-Uber Cab Drivers’ Association, a few auto unions, farmers’ associations, street vendors association, trade unions and transporters’ associations.

Meanwhile, Airport Taxi Services also supported the Bandh which forced flight passengers to find it difficult in finding the transport for reaching their destination in time. Fortunately, BMTC bus services at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) was available at the Airport.
