Karnataka CM must prove majority before any other business of house: Suresh Kumar

Bengaluru, Jul 15: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker Suresh Kumar on Monday challenged Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy to prove his majority to the state before proceeding with any other business of the House.

Speaking to ANI soon after reaching the Vidhana Soudha ahead of today's Assembly session, state BJP spokesperson Kumar said, "It is up to Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy to prove to the state that he enjoys the majority. He has himself asked the Speaker to fix a time, first that should be done and then other business can continue."

Rajajinagar MLA Kumar also stated that BJP has the support of all its MLAs and there was no internal issue in the party.

"All our 105 MLAs are together," he asserted.
BJP has been upping the ante against the JD(S)-Congress alliance government in the state and has been pressing it to prove its majority in the House.

Earlier in the day, a meeting of the Congress Legislative Party was held at the Taj Vivanta in Bengaluru.

Kumaraswamy had on Friday told the Speaker that he was ready to seek a trust vote or face a no-confidence motion during the session which will go on till July 26.

The 13-month-old coalition government in Karnataka slumped into crisis following the resignation of several Congress and JD(S) MLAs from the membership of the House.

Congress party has been accusing the BJP of conspiring to topple the coalition government in Karnataka.

The ruling alliance is making all efforts to protect its government which seems to have fallen short of a majority.

Mosques in Karnataka lead fight against Corona; caution through loudspeakers four times a day

Mangaluru, Mar 29: Mosques across Karnataka are now turning into centers to create awareness against deadly coronavirus that cause Covid-19.

The state government's board of auqaf has issued a notification to the administrations of all mosques to use their loud speakers to create awareness against the virus.

All the mosques in the state have already suspended congregational prayers to prevent the spread of the virus.

As per the decision of the state board of auqaf, now all mosques have to play the audio clips that creates awareness against the virus in three languages.

The clips will be played at 10 a.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. everyday.

Mangaluru: Second arrest in a week over social media post

Mangaluru, Jan 3: Mangaluru police arrested another person on charge of spreading communal hatred through messages. The accused have been identified as Abubakkar Siddique (48).

"One Abubakkar Siddique has been arrested in connection with a case for spreading communal hatred through inciting messages," said Dr PS Harsha, commissioner of police, Mangaluru.

On December 31, Police have arrested one person, Moideen Hameez, on charge of spreading communal hatred through social media.

The Mangaluru city police on Monday served notices to a few persons for posting inflammatory messages on social media.

The Cyber Crime police have summoned the accused persons to appear before it on January 2.

"Action against miscreants spreading communal hatred on social media underway in a major way. A dedicated team of cyber experts is keeping a hawk's eye on anyone fomenting communal disharmony anywhere on the internet," Harsha said in another tweet.

Deputy CM instructs BBMP Commissioner to ascertain exact cause of coronavirus-related deaths

Bengaluru, Aug 4: Deputy Chief Minister Dr.CN Ashwathnarayan instructed the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner Manjunatha Prasad to set up a separate high-level committee to ascertain the exact cause of coronavirus-related deaths in the state.

He spoke to reporters after a meeting with Prasad on Tuesday.

"The committee, headed by senior officials will audit the reason for the increase in death cases. Has there been a death due to treatment delay? Or are there any shortcomings in the treatment process?" the deputy chief minister said.

He pointed out that based on the report, the committee should try to correct the deficiency and reduce the death rate.

"How many beds are in which hospital? How many patients are on a ventilator? How many have gone home from the hospital? Etc. All information needs to be updated online at the moment. He suggested that this information should be made available to the public online," Ashwaththanarayana said.

Stating that some hospitals are not giving details about the number of beds correctly, he instructed the commissioners to take legal action if differences in their data are found.

He said that there is a shortage of ASHA workers in the city and it needs to be hired immediately.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are 74,477 active COVID-19 cases in Karnataka and the death toll in the state is at 2,594.
