Karnataka CM rules out banning PFI

Bengaluru, Feb 22 Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today ruled out banning any organisation such as Popular Front of India in the state.

"The question of banning any organisation (including PFI) doesn't arise yet," he told reporters here.

The chief minister was replying to a query whether the goverment intends to follow the footsteps of BJP-led Jharkhand government which banned PFI for "spreading anarchy" in the state.

The BJP state unit has been demanding a ban on the outfit, blaming it for the killings of Hindu and party activists in the state.

It has also alleged that the Congress was going soft on PFI to "appease" the minorities.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President G Parameshwara had earlier in the day countered BJP saying an organisation cannot be banned on mere demand, but the home minister can decide on it after reviewing the situation.

"Be it a demand of the Congress or BJP, government cannot ban based on a demand. The home minister reviews the situation time to time and will take a call," he said.

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 26: The Kerala Police on Wednesday arrested a man who had threatened people protesting against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Delhi on social media.

"The person was arrested by Agali police in Palakkad district for trying to instigate communal violence," the Police said.

On Tuesday, Kerala DGP Lokanath Behera had said that strict action will be taken against those who try to create any communal divide.

"Action will be taken against those who create or forward such messages that create communal tension through social media. All messages on social media are under police surveillance," he said.

Mangaluru, Mar 1: A youth lost his life in a lift crash at a wedding hall at Kallapu near Thokkottu on the outskirts of the city today. 

The deceased has been identified as Hamzah (30), a resident near Thumbay, who was part of the catering team hired for the marriage ceremony. 

The tragedy occurred at around 2 p.m. when Hamzah was getting ready to bring utensils and other things by lift from the third floor of the hall. All of a sudden, the lift’s ropes came loose and Hamzah lost his balance and got trapped inside.

He was pulled out and rushed to a hospital in Deralakatte, but he breathed his last on the way. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Bengaluru, Mar 31: Ten persons who were under home quarantine in Bengaluru and had escaped to their native places, were arrested on Monday.
A case has been registered against them at Gurmitkal Police Station, said BH Anil Kumar, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) Commissioner.

Seven new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Karnataka between Saturday 5 pm and Sunday 2 pm.

The total number of positive cases in the state stands at 83, out of which five have been cured and three have lost their lives, according to the Karnataka Health Department.
