Karnataka Congress was hit by cash-for-ticket charge in 2008 polls too

Bengaluru, Mar 17: The latest allegation of cash-for-ticket is not the first such the Congress is facing during the Karnataka Assembly elections. During the distribution of tickets for the Assembly elections in 2008, senior leader Margaret Alva had made similar allegations.

Margret, then an AICC general secretary, reportedly made the charges against the party leadership for denying the ticket for her son Nivedith Alva to contest from Khanapur Assembly segment. She had accused the party top brass of selling the party ticket.

While the party top brass dismissed her allegations, she had said that the media had quoted her out of context.

However, Siddaramaiah had almost endorsed Margret's allegation, saying: "This is a serious charge and the party should look into it seriously."

Former chief minister M Veerappa Moily's tweet on Thursday, which he has disowned, is said to be due to some leaders opposing the Congress ticket to his son from Karkala.

Admitting that several senior leaders of the party were demanding the tickets for their kin, KPCC chief G Parameshwara said, "nothing wrong in giving a ticket to children of senior leaders. But, certain parameters will be adopted."

With over a dozen senior leaders demanding the tickets for their kin, the party top brass is finding it difficult to handle the issue, said a senior leader.

Meanwhile, Science and Technology Minister M R Seetharam said Moily should not have made such statements.

Bengaluru, Aug 8: Congress is confused on the Ram Mandir issue and in dilemma to take a firm stand fearing loss of Muslim or Hindu votes, according to BJP leader and Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi.

"Congress opposed BJP's stand on constructing Ram Mandir in Ayodya, it called Lord Ram fictional and even decided to break the Ramsetu. Now, Congressmen are speaking the other way. Congress cannot think beyond vote bank politics which is in its DNA itself. Congressmen think that they are born to be in power," he said while speaking to media persons.

He said that BJP is all for constructing a grand Ram Mandir peacefully and legally, due to its conviction and not for politics. Same was the case with the revocation of Article 370 for Jammu & Kashmir. Anti-national activities have comparatively come down now.

Some people do not want everything going smoothly in the country, and Congress and Asaduddin Owaisi are among them, Joshi opined, adding that the Congress is merely frustrated.

Mangaluru, Jan 27: No power can now stop Kashmiri Pandits from going back to Kashmir, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Monday, forcefully defending the NDA government’s decision to reorganise Jammu and Kashmir and abrogating its special status under Article 370.

Addressing a massive pro-CAA, NRC rally organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party at Gold Finch city, Kuloor, on the outskirts of the city, the Defence minister also sent a strong message to Pakistan and said India will not let anyone live in peace if it is harmed.

"We will not touch anyone, but if someone bothers us, then we are not going to let them live in peace," he said.

Referring to the exodus of a large number of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in the late 1990s at the height of militancy, Singh said no power now can stop them from returning to their homes.

On the Citizenship Amendment Act, the minister said it is not a law to hurt the sentiments of any religion but to give relief to victims of religious persecution.

Mahatma Gandhi had told Nehru to give citizenship to minorities like Hindus and Sikhs if they come to India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fulfilled that vision by bringing in the law, Singh said.

On several non-BJP states refusing to implement the CAA, the defence minister said it it is a central law and everyone should follow it.

Accusing the Congress of misleading people on the issue, he said the party should not forget its duty towards the nation just because it is in opposition.
