Karnataka cops book 3 Kashmiri engineering students over social media posts

Bengaluru, Feb 17: Surya City Police in Bengaluru Rural District have filed FIR against three engineering students arrested for allegedly defending suicide bomber attack on a CRPF Bus at Pulwama in Srinagar-Kashmir in which more than 40 CRPF soldiers were killed and scores of others injured recently.

The students, in retaliation to a message on Facebook by a student in Kashmir against the attack, had celebrated the incident and aired slogans in lauding the sacrifice of the suicide bomber.

A 22 year-old engineering student was arrested by Bagalur police yesterday on sedition charge for his social media posts allegedly in support of the terrorist attack on CRPF Bus in Jammu and Kashmir on Feb 14.

The arrested Thahir Shazad Latif, hailing from Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir and was studying in third year engineering in a private College in Yelahanka.

It was alleged that he had posted images on his Facebook page hailing the terror attack. HAL Police had booked Abid Malik for allegedly posting messages on social media support the suicide bomber.

Hubballi, May 14: South Western Railway (SWR) has so far ferried about 54,000 passengers, including migrant workers, students and stranded people to 11 states to reach their home towns by Shramik Special trains.

So far 40 Shramik Specials were run one each from Kabakaputtur in Mysuru and Hubballi and remaining 38 from Chikkabanavara/Malur from Bengaluru area. About 54,000 passengers were ferried to different parts of the country. Maximum Shramik Specials trains train services were run to Lucknow (9) and Danapur (7).

Shramik Specials were run to Bihar (Bakora, Danapur, Baruni, Darbhanga), West Bengal (Purila, Bankura, New Jalpaiguri), Jharkhand (Hatia, Barkakana), Rajasthan (Jaipur, Udaipur), Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow, Gorakhpur), Orissa (Bhubaneswar), Madhya Pradesh (Gwalior), Uttarakhand (Haridwar), Himachal Pradesh (Una), Tripura (Agartala) and Jammu and Kashmir (Udhampur).

SWR is transporting passengers to their destination as per the demand of the State Government with proper protocol and the receiving State Government is ready to accept them.

Bengaluru, Mar 25: The Director-General of Police (DGP), Praveen Sood said on Wednesday that grocery stores and supermarkets can stay open for 24 hours across the state for people’s convenience.
Sood’s statement came on Wednesday following panic among people after the government’s announcement of a 21-day long nationwide lockdown starting on March 24.

Mangaluru, May 10: A young photographer has drowned in River Phalguni near Maravoor on the outskirts of the city.

The victim has been identified as Kaushik, 22, who was working for Diya Studio in Kavoor. A resident of Kavoor, he was the only son of his mother.

The tragedy occurred when he had been to the river along with four friends to collect freshwater snails.

It is learnt that local residents rushed to the spot when Kaushik’s friends raised alarm. However, they could not rescue him.

Kaushik’s body was retrieved from the water after sometime. A case has been registered at Kavoor police station.
