Karnataka crisis: Mayawati accuses BJP of horse-trading

Lucknow, Jul 11: Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of horse-trading in the states of Karnataka and Goa, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Thursday said the way in which the BJP was poaching legislators by misusing wealth and power was tarnishing the democracy of the nation.

In a tweet, Ms Mayawati said, "The BJP returned to power at the Centre through 'EVM malfunctions' and 'power of wealth' but is now venting its frustration of losing Assembly elections in various states by bringing down non-BJP governments, which the BSP strongly condemns."

Coming down heavily on the saffron party, the BSP president said the time has come for a strict anti-defection law to be put into place.

Karwar, May 29: A five-month-old baby girl was discharged from Kasturba Institute of Medical Sciences (KIIMS), Mangaluru after her successful recovery from Covid-19 on Friday.

The baby was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru in the third week of April for the treatment of epilepsy and on May 8, the baby, her parents tested positive for Covid-19 and they were also admitted. It is said that they contracted the virus from their 18-year-old relative.

Although the parents were discharged from KIMS on May 23, since the baby had epilepsy, doctors continued the treatment for 19 days.

Bengaluru, Jun 3: The Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences at Hubballi has successfully treated a COVID-19 patient through plasma therapy, state medical education minister K Sudhakar said today.

"Karnataka achieves yet another milestone in battle against #COVID19. KIMS Hubli has successfully treated a Covid19 patient through Plasma Therapy & is the first institute in the state to accomplish this. Congrats to KIMS doctors & staff for this feat!" Mr Sudhakar tweeted.

In plasma therapy treatment, plasma cells from a COVID-19 patient, who has recovered from the disease, is transfused to a coronavirus patient who is in critical condition to treat him.

Plasma therapy was effectively used in the past during Ebola and the Spanish flu pandemic.

Mangaluru, Mar 27: In the wake of coronavirus, the Council of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has taken steps to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the city as a task force has been formed to monitor home delivery of essentials and the situation prevailing in the city due to outbreak of the virus.

MCC commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde held a meeting of wholesalers to plan the smooth supply of essentials to the people on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, the wholesalers of the city have been directed to supply essential goods to apartments in the city. Each apartment should prepare purchase details and must hand it over to the wholesalers. This way residents will not have to go out to buy essentials. The purchasing time will be between 6 am to 12 pm.
