Kalaburagi, May 7: The Karnataka government has written to the Election Commission to relax the Code for taking up relief works in drought affected villages in the State.
"The prevailing Election Code is coming in the way of taking up relief works in the affected areas and this year the State is experiencing severe drought condition. More than 157 Taluks were declared as worst hit," Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said here today.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he said that "the Election Commission, in a communication, has asked the Ministers not hold review meetings, including video conferences with the officials. The letter has also asked officials not to attend the meeting called by Ministers. Hence we have written to Election Commission of India to relax the Code for taking up relief works in the affected areas".
