Vijayapura, Jan 11: All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K C Venugopal, who is political in-charge of party affairs in Karnataka, ruled out banning Popular Front of India (PFI) as demanded by opposition Bharatiya Janata Party in the State.
Stating that there was no question of banning PFI in the State, Mr Venugopal told newsmen on Thursday that the demand by BJP needs to be rejected as the State government is taking all necessary steps to nab the culprits indulged in violence and murder, especially in the coastal districts.
Mr Venugopal alleged that the BJP and RSS leaders were inciting violence in Coastal belt of the State. "Government will take all necessary steps to curb violence and against those who indulge in sowing communal seeds,” he said.
Meanwhile, several senior Congress leaders in the state including U T Khader and Dinesh Gundu Rao have criticised the BJP for playing dirty politics in the name of PFI.
“BJP’s demand for ban on PFI in Karnataka shows their hypocrisy. Their own government is in power at the Centre. Let them ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ban it across India instead of resorting to cheap politics,” they said.
