Mangaluru, Sept 15: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah led Karnataka will soon frame a comprehensive girl child policy that will focus on their education, health and nutrition up to the age of 18.
Speaking on the sidelines of the legislators’ regional conference 2017 on child rights held on Thursday, Minister for Women and Child Development Umashree said the policy will focus on the holistic development of girls.
The policy, which is in the draft stage, has been sent to various departments for inputs after which it will be placed before the Cabinet. “We are also planning to ensure that it addresses the rights of the girl child from the time of conception by focussing on maternal health,” an official said.
As many as 45 legislators from six States, including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Maharashtra, participated in the conference and shared initiatives on child rights introduced by their States.
