Karnataka Haj Committee to select pilgrims on Apr 27

Mangalore, Apr 22: The Karnataka state Haj committee will be selecting the Haj pilgrims for year 2014 by Qurrah (draw of lots) at a formal programme in Vidhana Saudha on April 27.

Disclosing this, Mohammed Margoob Ammed, the Chairman of Karnataka State Haj Committee, said that chief minister Siddaramaiah would formally launch the online selection process at the banquet hall of Vidhana Saudha 4:30 p.m on Sunday. Minister for Information, Infrastructure and Haj, R. Roshan Baig will also be present.

Mr Ahmed said that the as many as 17,182 applications were received until March 22, 2014, which was the last date for submission of the applications.

The chairman said that the aspirants who desire to witness the Qurrah are requested to bring the Haj pilgrim acknowledgement letter issued by Karnataka state Haj Committee along with one original identity proof, which has to be produced to the security at Vidhana Sauda. Only one person in a cover will be allowed, who shall be either cover head or one of the applicant to witness the event, he clarified.

Bengaluru, Jul 26: Today, one of the Co-founders of Infosys, SD Shibulal announced that over the last three days (22nd - 24th July) his family members have sold a portion of (representing approximately 0.20 per cent of the paid-up equity share capital) their holding in Infosys Ltd on the stock exchanges.

Proceeds from the partial stake monetization will be utilized for a combination of philanthropic and investment activities.

The sale was executed by Citigroup Global Markets India Private Limited as the Sole Broker.

The Founders, have served Infosys in various capacities, since its inception in 1981 until October 2014. Over the three decades, the Founders have nurtured the company transforming it into one of the professionally run companies in India with a global presence.

Puttur, June 19: A 32-year-old woman in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district died due to complications caused by dengue yesterday.

The deceased is Naseema (32), wife of Nazeer Master, a resident of Parpunja village in the taluk.

She was not well for past few weeks and she was diagnosed with dengue fever with chills a week ago.

Initially she underwent treatment at a hospital in Puttur. After her condition worsened, she was shifted to a private hospital in Deralakatte.

However, she breathed her last without responding to any treatment last night.

Naseema is the second victim of the mosquito-borne infection in Puttur taluk this month. Last week, dengue had claimed the life of a woman in Bettampady village in the same taluk.
