Bengaluru, Nov 17: Karnataka has emerged as an innovation leader in the country, and the only state to do so in many ways and at many levels, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

He was speaking at the inaugural function of Bengaluru Tech Summit, the flagship three-day technology event organised by the Karnataka government. The event got off on Thursday with the state committing to position itself as the leader in frontier and emerging technologies.

The CM said: "From the enterprise IT services business in the mid-nineties to the startup revolution beginning 2010, it is now heralding the era of AI, Big Data, and Deep Learning in the fields of healthcare, manufacturing, and enterprise IT."

He  pointed out that Karnataka and Bengaluru have been fortunate to have the IT industry as an engine of growth for the last 25 years. "Today, the IT industry has over 15 lakh employed here, more than 25,000 companies of which around 7,000 are startups, an export revenue of $45 billion, more than 450 research labs with over 400 Fortune 500 companies getting their work done here," he said.

He also said that Karnataka's share in India's total IT exports has also increased from 25% in 2010-2011, to 38% in 2016-17.

Biocon Chairman Kiran Mazumdar Shaw said the development in the life sciences space heralded in a new age of digital health using advanced technology, AI and data sciences.

"Digital biotechnology is gaining momentum. It is important to find that 60% of life-tech companies are located in Bengaluru and it has created 3,000 entrepreneurs. It is interesting to find that 30% of these companies are owned by women," she said.

Udupi, Jun 5: Senior BJP leader and Lok Sabha member Shobha Karandlje accused members of Tablighi Jamaat of spreading Coronavirus, particularly in slums, in Bengaluru.

Speaking to newsmen here Friday night, she said that the members had intentionally spread the virus in Siddique Layout and Padarayanapura. Members had hatched a conspiracy to destroy the country. She would raise the issue with the central government.

She said that New Delhi and Maharashtra were responsible for rising Covid-19 cases in the country. Highlighting the programmes, introduced by Modi-led NDA government for the past six years, she blamed Covid-19 for the collapse of the economy. But for Covid-19 Modi government at the Centre would have been a leader in the world,” she added.

She said 13,541 people, stranded in other States and foreign countries, had returned to Udupi. “We have sufficient beds in the district to tackle the situation. But if more people decide to travel to Udupi, arranging quarantine facilities would be a huge challenge,” she added.

Bengaluru, Apr 16: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr Ashwath Narayan today said that if former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, being a law-abiding citizen, does not follow guidelines then action will be taken against him.

The Deputy CM made this comment when he was asked about Kumaraswamy's son Nikhil's marriage, which has been fixed on April 17 at a farmhouse near Bidadi in Ramnagar.

Narayan said: "Any violation of the guidelines will not be tolerated. We will ask the concerned authority to film the entire event and document it."

He said that so far Kumaraswamy has made public statements that guidelines will be followed.

"HD Kumaraswamy is a people's representative. He has been in public life for a long time. He should abide by the guidelines," Narayan said.

"Since he has been in a responsible position for a long time and he was the Chief Minister, guidelines must be followed in his son's marriage as per the rules amid COVID-19 scare.

After the marriage, there must not be any excuses. He cannot say that people came without an invitation," the Deputy Chief Minister added.

Kumaraswamy clarified that only his family members will attend the marriage and that there will be around 60 to 70 people.

"All guidelines will be followed as per the central government directives," he said.
