Karnataka: Heavy rain damages paddy fields, areca plantations

Shivamogga, Aug 6: Paddy fields and areca plantations have been damaged in Hindlumane village and other areas in Shivamogga's Hosanagara Taluk due to incessant rains in the region.

Rainwater entered the village and caused water-logging in the fields.

IMD Bengaluru in its weather forecast has predicted moderate to heavy spells of rain and strong winds reaching (30-40) kmph which is likely to affect Dakshina Kannada/ Udupi/Uttara Kannada/ Shivamogga/ Chikmagaluru, districts of Karnataka.

On Tuesday morning, Shivamogga district administration declared a holiday for schools and colleges (government and aided) of three Taluks including Sagar, Thirthahalli, and Hosanagara of Malnad region. Shivamogga region has received the maximum rain in Karnataka.

There is a flood-like situation in northern Karnataka due to Maharashtra releasing a huge volume of water from its reservoirs after receiving heavy rainfall in the state.

Bengaluru, Jan 5: Rural development and panchayat raj minister K S Eshwarappa has received two threatening calls from Tamil Nadu, according to Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

He said that he had instructed the police to provide adequate security. 

At 12.30 pm on Friday, an unidentified person made a phone call. Speaking in Tamil, he threatened Eshwarappa with life, it is said.

Eshwarappa is known for abusive remarks and issuing threats to non-Hindus.

Mangaluru, Apr 18: Sauharda Forum in Moodbidri has placed a food-counter stand near Krishnakatte in Moodbidri here to feed the hungry during the lockdown.

Due to strict implementation of lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19, shops and hotels have remained closed since last one month posing a huge difficulty for many.

Stranded migrant labourers and others can collect water bottles, fruits, biscuits, and other eatables free of cost by the people at the stand.

Bengaluru, Jan 3: Three advocates were appointed additional judges of the Karnataka High Court.

A Law Ministry notification, issued here on Friday said Maralur Indrakumar Arun, Engalaguppe Seetharamaiah Indiresh and Ravi Venkappa Hosmani have been appointed as additional judges of the high court on Thursday. The newly appointed Judges will continue in their post for a period of two years from the date they assume charge.

While the names of advocates Arun and Indiresh were recommended by the Collegium on March 25 last year the name of Advocate Hosmani was recommended by the Collegium on October 4.
