Karnataka IPS Officer Annamalai Resign from Police Force

Bengaluru, May 28: Deputy Commissioner of police (Bengaluru South) K Annamalai had submitted his resignation to Indian Police Service on Tuesday.

An IPS officer of the 2011 batch, Annamalai may go back to his native state of Tamil Nadu and join politics, and according to reports, he has taken this decision after discussions with close friends and well-wishers.

Annamalai’s colleague and Director General of Police, Railways (Bangalore region) D Roopa Moudgil, in a tweet, however, said that Annamalai will enter politics. “Spoke to Annamalai, IPS .@DCPSouthBCP. He has tendered resignation today. He is plunging into politics. It requires guts, boldness to leave cushy, secure , hard earned IPS job. Its heartening to see such achievers n youngsters diving into politics. Wishing him all the best.”

Annamalai, in his letter, said that the decision (to resign) was well-thought out for over six-months’ time. “Last year, my visit to Kailash Mansarovar was an eye-opener as it helped me see my priorities in life better. Madhukar Shetty sir’s death in a way made me to re-examine my own life,” he stated in the letter.

Hailing from Karur in Tamil Nadu, Annamalai began his career as ASP of Karkala sub-division in 2013, before becoming SP of Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts. He was later transferred to Bengaluru.

Bengaluru, Jun 24: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah criticised the current state government rates for COVID-19 treatment in private hospitals and said that the patients must be treated free of charge in all hospitals.

"The state government has fixed rates for treating COVID-19. The current rates are shocking to the people," Siddaramaiah said.
Questioning the state government, he said, "Where can people pay these rates fixed by the government per day? Looking at these rates can be heartbreaking for the people. This raises the question of whether the government is sensitive to people's issues."

"The government must promptly announce free treatment and set up a standard treatment protocol. The government should appoint a panel of experts to continuously monitor whether treatment is being properly administered and create an environment where the public is free from anxiety," Siddaramaiah added.

Karnataka on Tuesday reported 322 fresh COVID-19 positive cases and eight deaths.
According to the state health department, the total number of positive cases has mounted to 9,721 and 150 deaths. So far, 6,004 people have been discharged.

New Delhi, Mar 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced total lockdown in the country from 120'clock tonight in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus.

"From 120'clock tonight there will be a complete lockdown across the country,"said Prime Minister Modi said during his second address to the nation within days.

He also hailed the people for the success of 'Janata Curfew' saying that they showed how Indians can come together and fight against any trouble which comes before the country.

"The one-day Janta Curfew showed how we Indians come together and fight against any trouble which comes before the country and the mankind,"he added. (ANI)

Dharwad, Jan 5: Hameed Khan, a noted sitar exponent and descendant of renowned sitarist Ustad Rahimat Khan, passed away at his residence here on Saturday night.

He was 69 and survived by wife Fareeda, son Mohsin Khan (a musician) and daughter Arma Khan (an artist).

Hameed Khan taught sitar at Karnatak University’s college of music and also at the family-run music school ‘Bharateeya Sangeeta Vidyalaya’. Several of his disciples who were foreign nationals helped him establish ‘Kalakeri Sangeet Vidyalaya’ at Kalakeri village near Dharwad, which provides music lessons to the deprived.
