Karnataka: Nearly 58% students fail to clear SSLC supplementary exam

Bengaluru, Jul 13: Only 42.47 percent of the 1.92 lakh candidates who appeared for the SSLC supplementary examination in June this year have cleared the boards.

While more than half of the candidates were unable to clear the examination, the performance this year did see a marginal improvement compared to the previous year when the pass percentage was 40.69%.

An analysis of the results reveals that students in unaided schools fared the best — 44.96% of candidates from these schools cleared the examination.

The pass percentage in government and aided schools is 40.95% and 42.27% respectively.

The highest marks secured by the candidate in the supplementary examination was 584. Data by the board showed that four students bagged centums in two examinations even though they had failed or not appeared in the March/April 2019 examinations.

The trend in the supplementary examination results followed a similar pattern to the main board exams: Girls with 47.67% passes, fared better than boys who secured a pass percentage of 39.53%.

Students in rural areas — who bagged a pass percentage of 43.34 — fared better than their urban counterparts who secured 41.63%. Two students bagged A+ in the supplementary examination, while the maximum number of students of the percentage that passed – 53.27 – bagged a C+.

An analysis of students performance based on the language of instruction showed that students in Urdu medium secured the highest passes with 55.86% clearing the boards.

The pass percentage of the others are: Kannada (40.99%), English (43.96%), Marathi (44.07%), Telugu (41.59%), Tamil (24.07%) and Hindi (41.1%). Around 35.61% of the total 1,438 students who were differently-abled passed.

Bengaluru, Aug 4: The Central Crime Branch-Bengaluru conducted raids at 35 locations in Hennur and Banaswadi areas on Tuesday morning and arrested seven foreign nationals without valid passports and visas.

The Crime Branch also recovered fake currency during the raid, which is currently underway, informed the police.

Mangaluru, Jan 18: ‘Ride For Rotary’ convoy of motor vehicles will be flagged off from Hotel Ocean Pearl Inn at Bejai-Kapikad, Mangaluru on 19th January, 2020 at 8.30 a.m.

Mangaluru has been chosen as the starting point for the convoy route this year which will cover Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. 38 Rotarians from 14 countries are participating in 2019-20 Ride For Rotary, which is the fourth edition of the event. They will traverse through Madikeri, Mysore, Wayanad, Ooty, Coimbatore, Munnar, Thekkady and Allepey before terminating at Kochi on 29th of January, 2020.

2019-20 Ride For Rotary includes 28 motorbikes and 5 cars. The participating nationalities are India, Norway, Sweden, Canada, France, Germany, USA, UK, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Poland and Belgium. They belong to ages 21 to 78, with 78-year old Otto Rieve from Canada being the senior most enthusiast. Swiss national of Indian origin Raj Patholi and Mangalorean Abraham Zacharias are among the riders. Delegates who have already reached Mangalore visited Bantwal on Friday to attend a gala dinner hosted by the Rotary Club of Bantwal.

Ride for Rotary is a charity event conceived by Rotary District 3181 which comprises of the revenue districts of Mysore, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada and Chamarajanagar covering 85 Rotary Clubs in 9 zones. Rotarians from across the world will come together for twelve exhilarating days. They will traverse through the meticulously arranged routes, enjoy the natural beauty of the places and experience the varied cultures and cuisines of the region. Ride for Rotary connects people and places like no other - Rotary Connects the World.

The proceeds from the event go to The Rotary Foundation, a charitable organisation that works tirelessly for the upliftment of the society.

Bengaluru, Mar 31: Bengaluru Central Crime Branch on Tuesday seized as many as 1,000 fake N95 masks amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

However, the police are yet to make arrests in the case.

Investigation in the case is underway and more details in this regard are awaited.

Recently, Noida Sub-Divisional Magistrate with a team from the Health department busted a fake sanitiser and mask factory.

Notably, the Central government recently had brought masks and hand sanitisers under the Essential Commodities Act up to June 30 as the novel coronavirus pandemic led to shortages and black marketing of these items.

Any person found guilty under the Act may be punished with imprisonment up to seven years or fine or both and can be detained for a maximum of six months.
