Bengaluru, Feb 14: The 80-minute audio clip released on Wednesday is a purported conversation between opposition leader in the legislative assembly BS Yeddyurappa, BJP MLAs Shivanagouda Naik and Preetham Gowda and Sharanagouda, son of JD(S) MLA Naganagouda Kandakur. An anonymous well-wisher of Yeddyurappa, who accompanied him, also joined in the conversation. During the discussions, BJP leaders freely invoke the caste card to convince Sharanagouda to get his father resign. Excerpts:

Yeddyurappa: You (Sharanagouda) can come with police security to submit resignation (of Naganagouda). The speaker cannot be elusive. If you submit resignation when session is going on, the speaker will be there all the time. He has to accept resignation. The only condition is that the MLA must meet him in person.

Shivanagouda Naik: He (speaker) has to accept resignation within 24 hours. You take a decision. You should feel proud that someone from your community is becoming the CM. Why are you worried about Kumaraswamy who is from Ramanagar and has no relationship with you?

Sharanagouda: Somebody was telling me that six BJP MLAs will join us (JDS).

Yeddyurappa: That is all lie. Not a single BJP MLA will go. We have left all MLAs free. They (ruling coalition) have not been able to touch one MLA.

Naik: There is nobody in BJP who will switch sides. All our MLAs are waiting for the government to fall. Yesterday, Venkatappa Naik (former Congress MLA) was saying that he was told by an MLA that the government will fall in two-three days. The chief minister himself has gone into depression.

Anonymous person: There is no political future for JD(S) workers and leaders. I am not forcing you to join BJP. I am telling you because you are our man.

Naik: You can start a new political innings with BJP. You be with sahebru (Yeddyurappa). You will become Yadgir district in-charge minister. You will get a good portfolio. We will discuss about financial matters separately. I set up the meeting only to instil confidence in you. Vijayendra (Yeddyurappa’s son) will talk about financial matters. You tell the amount, we will get you. You can also talk about your election expenses.

Anonymous: Bypoll to assembly seats will happen simultaneously with the Lok Sabha election. Yeddyurappa wants to win 20 Lok Sabha seats at any cost. So your election expenses will also be taken care. You lack political experience. I have seen Gowda and Kumaraswamy. They have not done anything for north Karnataka Lingayats who went with him in the past.

Preetham: Don’t mistake me for interfering. Anna has given me mandate to strike this deal. You don’t worry about payment. I will pay you by selling my property. You tell the amount. I will tell you if it is acceptable for us or not. Just think of me as your younger brother. You are a young star. This is a national party and it will be there till the sun and moon exist. Deve Gowda’s wicket will go soon. Kumaranna is not in good health. So, soon the JD(S) will vanish. Now I am 35-36 years old and I am already an MLA. You are 30 years old. You can be in politics for next 40 years. Let us be together.

Lucknow, May 9: The first patient to receive plasma therapy as an experimental treatment for coronavirus infection in Uttar Pradesh died following a heart attack on Saturday.

The patient, a 58-year-old doctor, was admitted at the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) here.

The doctor, who was on ventilator since the last 14 days, died on Saturday evening following a heart attack, KGMU Vice-Chancellor M L B Bhatt said.

Since he had high blood pressure and diabetes, he was under the continuous observation of doctors in the isolation ward, Bhatt said.

“The patient was in a stable condition. His lungs had improved, but he later developed urinary tract infection. Two reports of his samples came out as negative (for COVID-19) today,” the vice-chancellor said.

“He, however, suffered a heart attack around 5 pm. Despite all efforts, he could not be saved,” he said.

The doctor from Orai in Uttar Pradesh was administered plasma therapy at the state-run KGMU on April 26. He was administered the plasma donated by a doctor from Canada who was the first COVID-19 patient admitted at the hospital and later recovered.

Tulika Chandra of Blood Transfusion Department, KGMU said, "When the patient was given plasma therapy, his condition was very bad. His lungs, however, improved. But as he was an old patient with diabetes, he was kept on the ventilator.”

Convalescent Plasma Therapy is an experimental procedure for treating COVID-19 patients. In this treatment, plasma, a blood component, from a cured patient is transfused to a critically ill coronavirus patient.

The blood of a person who has recovered from COVID-19 develops antibodies to fight the virus. This therapy uses the antibodies from the blood of a cured patient to treat another critical patient.

The Union health ministry, however, had advised against considering the therapy to be a regular treatment for coronavirus, adding it should be used for research and trial purposes till there is a piece of robust scientific evidence to support its efficacy.

New Delhi, Feb 11: Senior Delhi Congress leader and national spokesperson of the party Sharmishtha Mukherjee alleged delay in decision making and lack of strategy and unity at the state level for the party's humiliating performance reflected in the Assembly poll results on Tuesday.

Mukherjee, president of Delhi Mahila Congress, stated that it was high time that the party takes some action. She added that she too was responsible for the Congress' poor show.

The Congress is on the verge of drawing blank again in the Assembly polls as all its candidates were way far behind their AAP and BJP opponents on all the 70 seats. In the 2015 Assembly elections too, Congress failed to win any seat.

"We r again decimated in Delhi. Enuf of introspection, time 4 action now. Inordinate delay in decision making at the top, lack of strategy & unity at state level, demotivated workers, no grassroots connect-all r factors. Being part of d system, I too take my share of responsibility (sic)," Mukherjee tweeted as the results came out.

She also accused the BJP of playing divisive politics while crediting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for playing "smart politics" as the results showed a clean sweep by the AAP to return to power.

"BJP playing divisive politics, Kejriwal playing ‘smart politics’ & what r we doing? Can we honestly say that we’ve done all 2 put our house in order? We r busy capturing Congress whereas other parties are capturing India. If we r 2 survive, time 2 come out of exalted echo chambers! (sic)," she said in another tweet.

The Congress contested the Delhi polls in alliance with the Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD), fielding candidates on 66 seats and leaving four to its partner.
