Setting the stage for assembly elections in Karnataka, the Election Commission (EC) is expected to announce polling dates in the second or third week of April this year.
The tenure of the Karnataka Assembly will end on May 28. Earlier it was expected that the EC would announce the poll dates in mid-March and the elections will be held in mid-April. The SSLC and PUC examinations in Karnataka have also been advanced this year in this regard.
However, Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat on Monday said that they will announce poll date around April 15. Hence the elections are likely to be held in mid-May.
Rawat and the election commissioners are likely to visit Karnataka in the first week of April to review arrangements.
