Karnataka: Rape accused stabbed to death

Hubballi, Dec 30: A man accused of attempting to rape a minor girl was stabbed to death by her relative in Navalgund town on Sunday.

The incident took place at the government hospital, where the accused, Fakruddeensab Nadaf, 52, was admitted after a mob attacked him following the alleged crime on Saturday.

According to Navalgund circle police inspector Ranganath Neelammanavar, Nadaf tried to rape a minor girl at Basaveshwar Nagar in Navalgund. "When the girl was alone at home, Nadaf lured her and took her to his home. Neighbours who observed Nadaf's moves assaulted him and handed him over to police. The accused was admitted to the hospital for treatment," he added.

Mysuru, Feb 21: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said Amulya Leona, who raised pro-Pakistan slogans, had links with Naxalites.

Yediyurappa said that Amulya's links with Naxalites have been proved in an investigation. "She must be punished and action will be taken against the people behind it," he said.

"Bail should not be given to Amulya. Her father has also said he won't protect her. Its proved now that she had contacts with Naxals. Proper punishment should be given," he added.

While speaking to reporters at Mysuru Airport, the chief minister said unless actions are taken against the organisations who provoke them to make such comments, it is not possible to control them.

Yediyurappa suspects that the incident was a conspiracy to disturb peace and harmony in the state.

Minister B C Patil said that such incidents should not repeat. "It appears that youths are misused for such anti-national activities, he said.

Bengaluru, Apr 2: About 1,500 people from Karnataka might have attended the Tablighi Jamaat event in Nizamuddin in the national capital between March 8 to 20. Of these, the State has been able to trace 800 people.
 
Of the 800 persons, 143 people have been found to be symptomatic.
 
Mr Jawaid Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary (Health and Family Welfare), in a statement here on Thursday said that the Centre had sent the list of 1,500 people to the State.
 
“We cannot say if all these have attended the congregation. Some of them may have attended and some may be the contacts of those who have attended. We have been able to trace 800 from the list and samples of 143 symptomatic persons have been sent for tests."

Mangaluru, Mar 10: Tension prevailed in the city after an international flyer quarantined at the District Wenlock Hospital walked out of the facility.

The passenger, with a recent travel history to high-risk countries, refused to cooperate with health officials. The day-long drama ended when the district administration intervened and the flyer agreed to get himself re-admitted.

Deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh said the passenger had fever and was sent to an isolation ward. “The passenger is cooperating with the treatment and samples have been collected for testing,” she said. The samples will be sent to a testing centre in Bengaluru.

Sources told  that rude behaviour by staff at Mangalore International Airport may have angered the passenger and he walked out of the quarantine facility.

She said if passengers show reluctance to be screened, they should first be counselled and allowed to get themselves admitted to a hospital of their choice with quarantine facility. If they still refuse to cooperate, they will have to be hospitalised forcefully, she added.
