Karnataka: Speaker disqualifies 3 rebel MLAs, reserves decision on resignation of other MLAs

Bengaluru, Jul 25: Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar drew curtains for the Resignation Crisis by disqualifying 3 Congress MLAs and reserving his order on the Resignation of remaining MLAs.

It may be recalled here that the issue had reached the Supreme Court as some of the resigned MLAs had approached and also rocked the Lok Sabha when there was delay allegedly by the Speaker in taking up for voting the Confidence motion moved by the then Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to seek confidence in the 14 month Congress-JDS Coalition Government.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, the Speaker announced that R Shankar, who was inducted as Minister in the Kumaraswamy Ministry, was disqualified as he has announced in his resignation submitted to the Governor that he will extend his support to BJP despite merging his KPPR party with Congress before swearing in as Minister. He handed over the letter to CLP leader Siddaramaiah.

Both Siddaramaiah and KPCC President Dinesh Gundurao gave complaint letter to disqualify him since he has written that he will support BJP, which is against Congress Principles.

Bengaluru, Aug 6: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday asked the state chief secretary to take necessary steps in view of the rising rainfall in the state and gave instructions for releasing Rs 50 crore for emergencies.

"CM BS Yediyurappa has instructed Chief Secretary to take appropriate precautions in view of the rise in rainfall activity across the state. CM advised Chief Secretary to keep in touch with district officials and instructed to release Rs 50 crores for emergencies," an official release said.

India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in a number of districts in the state.

CS Patil, Director, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Bengaluru said that red alert has been announced in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Chickamagalur, Shivamogga, Kodagu and Hassan due to heavy rainfall in the region from last two-three days.

Mysuru, Jan 11: Accusing the Congress and other opposition parties of pursuing “vote bank politics” on the Citizenship (Amendment ) Act (CAA), Kannada littérateur and Saraswathi Samman awardee S L Byrappa accused the party of misleading the people on the issue.

Speaking to media persons here on Friday, Mr Bhyrappa said that Congress was adopting the divide and rule policy of the British, who had created a rift between the Hindus and the Muslims to break their unity during the freedom struggle.

Bengaluru, Mar 12: The Karnataka government on Wednesday clarified that no coronavirus "emergency" has been declared in the state and that all the schools and offices will remain open.

Earlier, there were fake reports that Karnataka has declared "coronavirus as an epidemic" in the state.

In a statement, Karnataka health commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey refuted the reports doing rounds on social media which said Karnataka had declared COVID-19 as a "state epidemic".

Refuting the rumours, he added that all the schools, offices and other institutions will continue to function normally in the state.

The Karnataka government earlier today issued temporary regulation which asked all government and private hospitals to have flu corners for screening of suspected cases of COVID-19.

According to the regulation, no person/institution shall use print or electronic media to spread mis-information on COVID-19 without prior permission of the department of health & family welfare. If a person is found indulging in any such activity, they will be punished, it said.

The Karnataka government also started a campaign called 'Namaste over Handshake' that encourages people to greet in the traditional Indian style, to tackle the spread of the virus.

The state has reported four positive cases of coronavirus so far.

India, so far, has 60 confirmed cases of coronavirus, including 16 Italians tourists.
