Karnataka to withdraw around 130 cases related to violence during Tipu Jayanti?

Bengaluru, Dec 16: The BJP government of Karnataka has reportedly planned to withdraw around 130 cases related to violence and attempt to disturb peace during Tipu Jayanti celebrations across Karnataka in past few years. 

The cases were filed between 2015 and 2018 when Sangh Parivar activists had unleashed violence to disrupt ipu’s birth anniversary events organised by the then state government.

The Yediyurappa government has already cancelled the celebrations — introduced by the Siddaramaiah government in 2015.  Now final discussions are on to complete the process of withdrawing the cases.

According to documents available, the Department of Prosecution and Government Litigations had written to the state government with a list of 14 cases after the government sought its opinion. 

About 120 other cases registered in districts such as Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Mandya, Shivamogga and Davangere are also expected to be withdrawn by the government.

Highly placed sources said the issue was recently discussed during a meeting chaired by the chief minister with the secretaries of various departments. “A decision will be taken soon,” the source said.

BJP legislator K G Bopaiah had written to Yediyurappa in August, urging him to withdraw cases filed against Hindus during Tipu functions. Soon after, the government had shot off several letters to the department.  

The epicentre of protests was Kodagu where demonstrations were held every year against the celebrations. Two persons were killed in violent protests in 2016.

Bengaluru Jul 29: There will be a centralised system in place in Karnataka to classify asymptomatic, symptomatic and mild symptomatic persons and recommend treatment based on the severity of the cases, said Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Tuesday here.

"Various existing apps related to COVID-19 will be brought under one platform to get real-time information which will assist in strategising allocation of hospitals/beds to the needy. This will probably remove the delay in bed allocation and treatment which is being faced now. The patients will get all information in one phone call," Dr Sudhakar said.

Sudhakar spoke with a team of experts from the government and Infosys.

Referring to a company by name Step 1, which is providing such services in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh, the Minister said that a similar system will be implemented in the state as well.

"This company is having a team of doctors and nurses which is guiding the people whether they need hospital treatment or home isolation after they are tested positive for COVID-19. More than 70 per cent of the positive cases are being asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic and are advised to go for home isolation," the minister said.

"The load on the hospitals is reduced and severe cases can be administered proper treatment. Infosys co-ordinates with the government to provide technical support for this system," Dr Sudhakar added.

Earlier during the day, the minister held a video conference with the heads of private medical colleges to review COVID preparedness.
The government has already passed guidelines to allocate 50 per cent of hospital beds for COVID patients.

Maddur, Feb 7: Two daily wage workers were buried alive after a heap of mud collapsed on them near the Agriculture Department office on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway, in Maddur of Mandya district on Thursday night, police said on Friday.

Police said that the deceased, Kashinath (37), and Rajgandh (30), were working at a site of the ongoing Bengaluru-mysuru highway development project.

Bantwal, Jan 15: Two people died in a head-on collision between two two-wheelers at Mani-Mysuru Highway in Bantwal last night, police said on Wednesday.

Police said that Parikshit (19) and Padmanabha Gowda (28) were heading towards Mane while Mohammed Ajmal (19) on his activa was on his way towards Kodaje when they collided head-on.

All the victims were immediately rushed to hospital for treatment where two of them breathed its last after not responding to the treatment.

Parikshit and Ajmal lost their lives while Gowda suffered critical injuries, the police said.

In another road accident reported from Kodangayi near Radukatte in Vittla, seven people including women and children sustained injuries when a Maruti Omni and another vehicle collided here on Tuesday evening.
