Bengaluru, Mar 5: A 42 year-old man from Uttar Pradesh got a new lease of life as a 28 year-old boy from Tumakuru in Karnataka donated his heart and doctors successfully transplanted his heart at M S Ramaiah Narayana Heart Centre- a unit managed by Narayana Health in the City.
The youth had met with a road accident on March 3. Though he was immediately taken to a local hospital in Vellore, he was referred to Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road for further treatment. He was declared brain dead on March 5 and his wife consented for organ donation.
The heart was retrieved and transported to M S Ramaiah Narayana Heart Centre, here with the help of a green corridor and the distance of 18.6 km was covered in a span of 23 minutes, according to a release here on Tuesday.
