Kasaragod, Jan 1: Tension prevailed at Chettukuunu in Kasaragod district during the participation of women in the 620-km long Kerala state sponsored ''Women's Wall'' campaign to uphold gender equality and renaissance values.

Reports reaching here said, a group of alleged BJP/RSS workers had pelted stones on the women volunteers who were arriving at the place to line up for the wall besides setting on fire the vegetation alongside the railway track, making it impossible for them to line up in the wall.

The workers hurled stones at the women and policemen, injuring three personnel, police said. Police fired in the air and burst teargas shells to disperse the workers.

The incident occurred just as the human wall initiative was coming to a close Tuesday evening.

Media personnel of two television channels were also attacked by the saffron activists, who reportedly forced them to delete the visuals of the incident.

The highway at this 500 metre stretch is parrelel and close to the Railway line and the thick fumes spread all over forced the wall break up at this area.

Lakhs of women from various walks of life on Tuesday participated in the 620-km long state sponsored ''Women's Wall'' campaign to uphold gender equality and renaissance values.

The "Women's wall" was conceived in the backdrop of frenzied protests witnessed in the hill shrine of Lord Ayyappa at Sabarimala after the CPI(M)-led LDF government decided to implement the Supreme Court verdict, allowing all women to pray at the Ayyappa shrine.

With the Kerala Minister for Health K K Shylaja standing first led the chain here.

In Kannur, the bastion of CPI(M), heavy turnout of women was witnessed from even the interior villages, to form part of the "Women's Wall".

The enthusiasm was overwhelming in Kozhikode with women from the various parts of the district and also from the neighbouring district of Wayanad, lined up to make Women's Wall stretch out upto Iykkarapadi, its border with Malappuram, covering a distance of 79 kilometers.

Feb 3: The Karnataka government is probably the only state to have so many nodal agencies to deal with investment proposals. There is the KIADB, Karnataka Udyoga Mitra, State High Level Clearance Committee (SHLCC), State Level Single Window Clearance Committee (SLSWCC) and District Level Single Window Clearance Committee.

While the government claims these have been created to speed up the process of setting up industries, they’re only delaying it. “A four-to-five year delay in acquiring land has become the norm,’’ say industry sources.

“These entities are only adding layers of obstacles to investors and is not really helping industries,” said a senior IAS officer.

While DLSWCCs are headed by deputy commissioners are empowered to clear investment proposals up to Rs 15 crore, SLSWCC, headed by the industries minister, clears proposals more than Rs 15 crore and up to Rs 500 crore. Proposals worth more than Rs 500 crore have to be cleared by SHLCC chaired by the CM. These entities have to meet regularly and clear proposals. But often, these meetings don’t happen as scheduled. “The delay starts from here,” said Vasant Ladava, industrialist and member of Karnataka Industries and Commerce, Bengaluru.

The single-window agencies involving representatives of departments like industries, revenue, pollution control board and forest are supposed to collectively give necessary clearances required for industries. “But, of late, they have become only project approvers without other responsibilities, leaving investors in the lurch,” said Ladava.

Bengaluru, Jul 22: On Wednesday morning starlet and Bigg Boss 3 contestant Jayashree Ramaiah sent social media into a tizzy with an update that read, “I quit. Goodbye to this f*****g world and depression.” Friends and acquaintances immediately began reaching out to the actor asking her to return their concerned calls and desist from taking any extreme steps.

“Jayashree has been battling depression for a while now. She had family issues and was also concerned about the lack of work,” shares actor Ashvithi Shetty. The Ramachari twins were in touch with Jayashree since they met at a celebrity cricket match four years ago. “She has shared several times about how low she’s been and I would try to cheer her up. But the problem was that she’d keep changing her phone number so often that it became difficult to keep track of how she was doing,” states Ashvithi.

Around four months ago, Jayashree moved into her own home and mentioned to her that she was happy with this new development in her life. “But she went retreated again and a few days ago, I messaged her on social media and she said she was doing fine. So I was shocked to see this update on Wednesday morning,” avers the actor. Repeated calls finally elicited a message from Jayashree that she was getting admitted to the hospital. “But I also got contradictory information that she had been discharged and had been taken to the hospital again but she was refusing to go inside. I am awaiting more clarity on the issue,” sums up Ashvithi.
