Kateel files nomination papers, says ‘Modi tsunami’ will help BJP sweep the polls

Mangaluru, Mar 25: BJP leader and two-time Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, who is seeking reelection to the parliament for the third consecutive time, today nomination papers.

Accompanied by the local leaders of BJP, Mr Kateel submitted nomination papers to Deputy Commissioner-cum-Returning Officer Sasikanth Senthil at the latter’s office.

Prior to this Mr Kateel addressed party workers at the BJP election office and expressed confidence that he would achieve a hat-trick by defeating Youth Congress leader Mithun Rai, who is contesting on Congress ticket against him.

“People of Dakshina Kannada have always blessed me. I am sure that they will bless me in the next month’s Lok Sabha polls too,” he said, adding that the Modi tsunami will help BJP sweep the polls.

He claimed that during his current tenure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government has released Rs 16,520 crore for various development activities in Dakshina Kannada.

Mangaluru, Jul 5: A veteran politician and former union minister has repeatedly tested positive for COVID-19 in the Dakshina Kannada.

The former minister, who resides in Bantwal taluk, is said to be asymptomatic.

His wife and children have also tested positive for the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, one of the kin of the former minister said that he is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru. "He is asymptomatic and doing well," he said.

Bengaluru, Jan 19: Two college students have been arrested for allegedly spiking their female friend's drink and sexually assaulting her in Bengaluru.

The 19-year-old victim filed a complaint against the two accused, following which they were nabbed. In her complaint, the victim said that the two friends persuaded her to accompany them in a party where one of them allegedly spiked her drink.

Feeling unwell, she wanted to return to her PG, but the two managed to convince her to stay back at their place, where they allegedly sexually assaulted her.

"After some time one of my friends gave me something to drink and I vomited. I felt uneasy and decided to return to my PG. However, he forced me to go to his house stating that I was not in a condition to go to my PG. He convinced me saying that I can go home in the morning. I did not suspect any foul-play as he was a friend," the victim was quoted as saying by the publication.

Shivamogga, May 12: As many as six medical staff members, attached to the Shivamogga district hospital, who were members of the Corona Warriors team, were suspended for raising concerns over inadequate facilities, available to the frontline workers.

According to official sources, among the six, who were suspended by the Hospital Director, included three staff nurses and other supporting staff in the hospital.

The cause for the retaliation with punishment, was following concerns raised by the medical staff over aweful facilities, made available to them by the Hospital authorities.
