#KeepModiGiveKohinoor trends on Twitter during PM Modi's UK visit

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's three day UK tour has sparked a wave of backlash online. #KeepModiGiveKohinoor exploded on Twitter gaining over 11k mentions in the past day, trending in both India and the UK.moditwitter

Modi's visit, which began on Thursday, is expected to produce better trade relations with the UK, but his arrival was met with protesters upset by intolerance back home. Opposition leader, Slaman Nizman, who allegedly started the hashtag, echoed this sentiment online. Nizami sarcastically told the UK to keep his country's PM, and instead return the 105 carat Kohinoor diamond, taken in the mid-19th century by the East India Company as a mark of Britain's colonial rule. Others offered different deals.

New Delhi, June 13: A quarantine notice pasted outside former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s 3, Motilal Nehru Place residence has raised speculations among media and political circles.

According to reports, the daughter of a domestic help who works at Singh’s residence has tested positive. She and her family, who live in the servant quarters, have been quarantined.

Singh, who has not been keeping well for some time, is slowly getting active. Congress leaders said the former Prime Minister attended a meeting of the party’s consultative committee on Thursday through video conference.

Mumbai, May 22: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday reduced repo rate by 40 basis points to 4 per cent in an effort to further boost liquidity in the economy which has been reeling under the impact of COVID-19 induced countrywide lockdown.

As a result, the reverse repo rate stands at 3.35 per cent, said RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das. The six-member monetary policy committee (MPC) voted 5:1 in favour of the decision.

Repo rate is the rate at which a country's central bank lends money to commercial banks, and the reverse repo rate is the rate at which it borrows from them.

New Delhi, Aug 2: Union Home Minister Amit Shah today tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus infection and has been admitted to a hospital. 

Shah took to social media today to inform about his infection. “I have tested positive but my health is fine," he said, adding that he has been hospitalised on the assistance of doctors. 

The Union Home Minister also appealed to those who came into close contact with him in the last few days to get themselves tested for COVID-19.
