Kejriwal punched while campaigning in Delhi

Kejriwal_punchedNew Delhi, Apr 4: A 19-year-old man twice punched AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal here Friday while pretending to garland him as the latter campaigned for the Lok Sabha election.

"Saying he wanted to garland Kejriwal, the attacker got on to an open vehicle and punched him twice," an Aam Aadmi Party leader who witnessed the attack said.

The attacker was identified as Abdul Wahid, a resident of Delhi's Jamia Nagar area, Deputy Commissioner of Police P. Karunakaran said.

AAP activists pounced on the attacker and roughed him up before police took him away.

Kejriwal was with his party's South Delhi Lok Sabha candidate Devendra Sherawat and three legislators when the attack took place in south Delhi's Dakshinpuri area.

The former Delhi chief minister urged his supporters not to retaliate violently.

"We are fighting for truth and honesty... Let them (our critics) attack us. We should not hit back," he said.

In less than a month, Kejriwal has been targeted four times, including in Gujarat, Haryana and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

New Delhi, Jun 22: With an increase of 14,821 new cases and 445 deaths, India's COVID-19 count reached 4,25,282 on Monday.

According to the latest update by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), 13,699 deaths have been recorded due to the infection so far in the country.

The rise in confirmed cases today is lower than the highest spike of 15 thousand plus cases registered on Sunday.

The count includes 1,74,387 active cases, and 2,37,196 cured/discharged/migrated patients.

Maharashtra with 1,32,075 confirmed cases remains the worst-affected by the infection so far in the country. The state's count includes 60,161 active, 65,744 cured, discharged patients while 6,170 deaths have been reported due to the infection so far.

Meanwhile, the national capital today became the second-worst affected region in the country with the number of confirmed cases in Delhi reaching 59,746 as opposed to Tamil Nadu's 59,377 cases.

While 2,175 deaths have been reported in Delhi due to the infection so far, the toll in Tamil Nadu stands at 757.

Srinagar, Mar 27: Over 180 people with undeclared recent travel histories have been traced and shifted into quarantine in Srinagar, officials said.
"COVID-19: Over 180 persons with undeclared recent travel histories have been traced and shifted into quarantine this past week in Srinagar. Some 200 more complaints are being verified. Just hoping no one is infected as it's just too hard to even imagine the possible consequences." Srinagar district administration tweeted.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had earlier on Thursday reported 88 new COVID-19 cases, which is the highest in a single day, taking the total countrywide tally to 694.

New Delhi, Jul 19: With the highest single-day spike of 38,902 cases reported in the last 24 hours, India's total COVID-19 tally on Sunday reached 10,77,618, informed the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Sunday.

The death toll has gone up to 26,816 with 543 fatalities reported in the last 24 hours.

The Health Ministry said the total number of cases includes 3,73,379 active cases and 6,77,423 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with 3,00,937 cases reported until Saturday.
Meanwhile, as per the information provided by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 1,34,33,742 samples have been tested for COVID-19 till July 18, of these 3,61,024 samples were tested yesterday.
