Kochi, Jul 14: Breaking her silence, the South Indian actress who was abducted and assaulted by a gang of men in February on Thursday expressed hope that truth would come out in the case in which popular Malayalam actor Dileep was arrested on the charge of being a key conspirator.

In her first comments since the arrest of Dileep on July 10, the actor, in a release, said she was shocked like others on seeing the developments which unfolded in the case over the last few days.

In related developments, Dileep, under police custody, was taken to various places in Thrissur for collecting evidence while his brother Anoop alleged a conspiracy.

“There is a big conspiracy. My brother is being framed... The truth will come out,” he told reporters here.

The actor, without taking Dileep’s name, recalled her working with him in several movies and said some personal issues between them had put an end to their friendship.

She had not tried to make anyone as an accused in the case because of personal rivalry or in the name of any other issues, she said.

Dismissing reports that the rivalry between them had erupted over a real estate deal, the actor said she had no such deals -- either real estate or financial -- with the actor.

The actor said she had come to know from media and other sources that all evidences were against the actor, currently being questioned in police custody.

Apparently referring to Anoop’s claims, she said if “that person” (Dileep) is claiming that he was trapped in the case, the fact about it should also come out fast.

Let the truth be revealed quickly in the case, she said, adding those responsible for the crime shall not be left to go scot-free and no innocent person should be implicated.

Anoop alleged the developments which led to the arrest of the actor were being done on the basis of a pre-planned script.

Police in its remand report had claimed that Dileep had developed a grudge against the actor for letting his former wife know about his private life and hatched a conspiracy to take revenge way back in 2013.

In another development, police on Thursday took the statement of actor Aju Varghese, booked for disclosing the name of the assaulted actor on social media.

They also seized Varghese’ mobile phone using which he had allegedly posted the social media message.

He has been charged under Section 228 A of the IPC (Disclosure of identity of the victim of certain offences).

The actor had earlier expressed regret over revealing the identity of the actor.

The popular actor, who has worked in Tamil and Telugu films, was abducted and allegedly molested inside her car for two hours by the accused, who had forced their way into the vehicle on February 17 and later escaped in a busy area here.

Six persons, including ‘Pulsar’ Suni, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

After his arrest, on the charge of conspiracy, Dileep has been expelled from various film forums, including the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), as the industry rallied behind the actor.

Mumbai, Jul 25: Movie theatres have been shuttered for months due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country, but the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has now recommended that the Union Home Ministry allow cinema halls to reopen in August.

I&B Secretary Amit Khare indicated this at a close-door industry interaction with the CII Media Committee on Friday. He said Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla at the Home Ministry would take the final call.

Khare said that he has recommended that cinema halls may be allowed to reopen all over India as early as August 1, or at the latest, around August 31.

The formula suggested is that alternate seats in the first row and then the next row be kept vacant, and proceeding in this fashion throughout.

Khare said that his ministry's recommendation takes into consideration the two metre social distancing norm, but tweaks it gently to two yards instead. The Home Ministry, however, still has to revert on the recommendation.

Cinema owners, present in the interaction, however, pushed back and said this formula is unwise and merely running films at 25% auditorium capacity is worse than keeping the cinemas shut.

The attendees at the meet included media CEOs like N.P. Singh of Sony, Sam Balsara (Madison), Megha Tata, (Discovery), Gaurav Gandhi (Amazon Prime), Manish Maheshwari (Twitter), S. Sivakumar (Bennett Coleman and Co Ltd), and K Madhavan, Star & Disney, and also Chairman, CII Media Committee.

The OTT platforms present, including Gandhi of Amazon Prime, did not push back. Some Bollywood producers, notably those of Amitabh Bachchan's Gulabo Sitabo, have posted their movies on OTT, rather than live out the lockdown uncertainty.

Chennai, Mar 12: Superstar Rajinikanth on Thursday clarified that he never aspired to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and said his plans for politics include different heads for his prospective party and a possible government headed by it.

In his first official press conference since December 31, 2017, when he announced to take the political plunge, the veteran star also said he planned to appoint as CM, an educated youth who was compassionate and had self-respect.

With a two-leadership system for party and the government, the former would act as an "opposition" to highlight issues and would not even hesitate to "remove", apparently the head of the government, if it fails to perform, he said.

His prospective party would focus on including a substantial amount of youngsters in the age group of below 45 years while the rest would comprise retired judges and IAS and IPS officials among others.

"I myself would reach out to them and invite them," to join him, the 69-year-old actor said.

Contrary to expectations, he however, did not make a concrete statement on floating his party but called for an "uprising" by youth, after which he would make his formal political entry.

'Ramayana' is an Indian historical-drama epic television series, which aired during 1987-1988, created, written, and directed by Ramanand Sagar.

The show was a television adaptation of the ancient Indian Hindu epic of the same name, and is primarily based on Valmiki's Ramayan and Tulsidas' Ramcharitmanas.

DD National also said that on public demand, amid the 21-day lockdown, it will broadcast Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan from Saturday.
