Kannur, Apr 4: A 14-year-old boy suffered serious injuries in his eyes when a crude bomb exploded near a playground at Pariyaram near Mattanur in Kannur district of Kerala on Wednesday.
According to police, Vijil TK (14), son of Pushpa of Pariyaram, suffered injuries in his eyes, face and right hand in the explosion. He was rushed to Kozhikode medical college hospital for treatment.
The incident occurred when the boy was playing cricket with his friends at a playground near his house. He went to the neighbouring plot to pick the ball he was playing with.
The ball fell inside the coconut leaves piled near the playground. By mistake, he picked up the bomb instead of the ball and the bomb exploded soon after he picked it up.
Kannur, a politically volatile district had in the past witnessed violence involving use of crude bombs.
