Kerala in the grip of viral fevers including H1N1; 103 deaths so far

Kasaragod, Jun 18: With over 100 deaths being reported since January in Kerala due to various types of fevers, government today appealed to the people to join the government's mass sanitation drive on a war footing. 14hospital

According to Health Department sources here, as many as 103 people, including women and children, have succumbed to various types of fevers including H1N1, leptospirosis and dengue from January till date.

Of the total 103 deaths, 53 people have died of H1N1 and 13 due to dengue, the sources said.
Breeding of mosquitoes due to piling of waste was considered to be prime reason for the spread of fever and other communicable diseases, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, adding social hygiene was essential to keep diseases at bay.

"Political party activists, representatives of local self government institutions and members of socio-cultural outfits and clubs should take part in the sanitation drive on war footing," he said in a statement.

Stating that the government had already stepped up its sanitation drive with the support of local people, Vijayan said fever cases have reduced in those places where waste management and mosquito control measures have been implemented effectively.

He said the government had ensured enough stock of essential medicines and the service of doctors in all government hospitals.

Meanwhile, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala visited Vijayan at his official residence here today and submitted a memorandum with some suggestions to tackle the crisis. He alleged that 117 people had died due to fever in the state since January.

At least an average of 20,000 persons are arriving at state hospitals seeking treatment for fever. "Youngsters and children are succumbing to viral fever" and there was emergency situation, he said.

Chennithala also said the health department had failed miserably in containing the fever and blamed state Health Minister K K Shylaja for not rising to the occasion.

Refuting the charges, the Health Minister said the opposition was trying to take political mileage over the situation. A united effort is needed to overcome the situation, she said in Kochi.

Karnataka Board of Auqaf asks mosques to conclude Juma prayers in 15 minutes

Bengaluru, Mar 19: As a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the Karnataka State Board of Auqaf has issued an advisory to mosques, dargahs and other religious institutions, requesting them to conclude the Friday congregation in 15 minutes for the next three weeks.

"Respected head of masjids and imams (prayer leader) are requested to conclude the entire Juma congregation (including Juma khutbah, salah and dua) in 15 minutes for the next three weeks and avoid using the public mic for the khutbah and salah," read a statement from the Karnataka State Board of Auqaf.

It has advised to ensure cleanliness and good hygiene inside mosques and keep the carpets, prayer mats, floor mats etc clean.

Further, it stated that those coming for daily prayers should be instructed to perform wudhu (ablution) at their homes and avoid using prayer caps placed in masjids.

"Please remove the public towels and prayer caps from the masjids. Sunnah and nafil prayers should observed at home," the advisory read.

The advisory came as the number of coronavirus patients spiralled across the country. The governments are taking all precautionary measures to contain the spread of the virus that has claimed more than 7,500 lives across the globe since its outbreak in China in December last year.

Doesn't this reflect upon our stupidity. They have lost the whole point of virus spread. Let's pray as per our so called Muslim religious leaders IQ level that the virus does not spread among the hundreds in that 15 minutes.This is exactly why we are losing it.

Mangaluru: Rashtriya Lok Adalat 2020 to begin from Feb 8

Mangalore, Feb 6: The first Rashtriya Lok Adalat of 2020 will get started from Feb 8, A district judge has announced, adding that it is being organised by Karnataka Law Services Authority and Dakshina Kannada Law Services Authority.

Speaking to media on Wednesday evening, Justice Sathyanarayana Acharya Kandlur said, "4,820 cases were resolved through Lok Adalat last year. 618 cases have been registered so far to be decided under the Lok Adalat."

Familial, civil and revenue cases of cheque dishonour, financial extortion, cases related to telephone, electricity, water, land encroachment and acquisition, motor vehicle cases, labour issues and maintenance expenses will be decided in the Lok Adalat.

Bengaluru, April 6: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday said he is following the one-time fasting as per the order by BJP President JP Nadda.

"I am following the one-time fasting as per the order by our national President JP Nadda, on BJP foundation day today, as a mark of respect to doctors, nurses, media personnel," said BS Yediyurappa.

In his message to BJP workers earlier today, Nadda stated, "All BJP Karyakartas to give up one meal on our Foundation Day as a way to show solidarity with people facing hardships during the lockdown. Provide food packets to 5+1 needy under #FeedtheNeedy program. In the next one week, put a system in place where we can provide two homemade face covers to each person at our booth. We should circulate videos of preparation and distribution of such face covers with #WearFaceCoverStaySafe."
