Kerala nurse murder in Oman: Husband, Pakistani neighbour detained

New Delhi, Apr 23: A Pakistani national and the husband of Chikku Robert, a nurse from south Indian state of Kerala who was found murdered at her residence in Oman, have been put under detention and are being investigated in the case, External Affairs Ministry said on Friday.

"On 21st April in Salala Oman, a nurse from Kerala, Chikku Robert was found murdered. Our mission in Muscat has informed us that the royal Oman police is currently investigating her death. A neighbour, who is a Pakistani national and her husband are under detention and are being investigated.

"The Embassy is in touch with the police authorities concerned. Her mortal remains are in a mortuary in the custody of royal Oman police. The Mission in Oman will continue to follow up the case with authorities concerned including release and transportation of the mortal remains after the investigation is completed as per the wishes of the family," MEA Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.

According to media reports from Oman, Robert (25) was found stabbed to death at her residence. She was five months pregnant, reports add. Chikku Robert, a native of Angamaly in Kerala, got married to Linson, hailing from Changanassery, seven months ago. Both the husband and wife were reportedly working at the same hospital.

Bengaluru, Apr 16: The Karnataka government on Wednesday identified 14 departments as essential and asked all its employees to attend work during the extended period of lockdown to check coronavirus spread in the state.

According to a circular issued by Chief Secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar, all classes of officials/employees in these departments must attend to their work.

The departments are: Health and Family Welfare, Medical Education, Home, Revenue, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Urban Development, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Information and Public Relations, Transport, Energy, Personnel and Administrative Reforms (e-Governance), Finance (including treasuries), Animal Husbandry and Fisheries and Forest, Ecology and Environment.

In all other departments, only Group-A officers have been directed to report for duty.

However, those visually-impaired or physically-

handicapped are exempt from work, the circular said, adding that this norms will be valid till April 19.

Mangaluru, Jul 8: A corporator and a staff in Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) have tested positive for the coronavirus. 

The woman corporator, who was under home quarantine for past few days ago, received her covid test report today. 

A staff of health department who works in MCC also tested positive for the covid-19. 

The woman corporator had recently attended a primary health centre meeting. A person who had attended the meeting was later tested positive. Hence the corporator was placed under home quarantine.

Mangaluru, Apr 1: Dakshina Kannada District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Tuesday announced that essential shops including grocery stores, fruits and vegetable shops will be allowed to open from Wednesday between 0700 hrs to 1200 hrs across the district.

Speaking at a press conference, he said that Milk, Medical, Gas distribution, Petrol Bunks, Banks will be opened as usual, he informed adding that Central Market and the Suratkal Market will remain closed.

With the Dakshin Kannada district administration relaxing the lockdown from 0600 hrs to 1500 hrs to purchase essential commodities, panic-stricken citizens rushed to the shops early in the morning itself.
