Kerala techie kills NRI father, dumps body parts separately

Chengannur, May 30: In a gruesome incident of patricide over property dispute, a 36-year-old IT professional has allegedly shot dead his NRI father, cut his body into pieces and dumped them at various locations here.

1keralaPolice said Sherin John, working with a company in IT hub Technopark, was arrested after he confessed that he had killed his father Joy V John (68) last week.

John was living in US for the last three decades and visited his ancestral home near here when he was murdered, police said, adding property dispute led to the crime.

Based on Sherin's statement, police carried out a search in various places and recovered a portion of limb, head and some other body parts, believed to be that of Joy.

"The recovered body parts will be sent for DNA testing and other scientific analysis.

"As per our preliminary investigation, property dispute between the father and son had led to the murder," Alappuzha District police chief B Asok Kumar told PTI.

Joy had gone missing since last Wednesday after he had gone out with Sherin to repair an air-conditioner.

As her husband and son did not return, Joy's wife Mariamma lodged a missing complaint with the police.

During interrogation, Sherin confessed to committing the crime, police said, adding he had been booked for IPC offences including murder and destruction of evidences.

Sirsi, May 3: A group of 19 students from the district were on Saturday safety brought back to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) at Malagi in Mundgod taluk by special buses from Madhya Pradesh.

The students were admitted to the JNV, Junapani, Bhopal district, for class 9 this academic year. They were kept at a hostel since March 22.

They could not leave for the state as train services were suspended before they were ready for the travel. Hence, they were kept at the local hostel.

Based on requests by parents, Labour Minister Shivaram Hebbar, directed the chief secretary to get in touch with the Madhya Pradesh government to bring back the students.

Hebbar, who visited the JNV, said that the students would be sent to their homes in two days after medical tests.

According to the JNV authorities, the decision was taken to bring back the students as their parents were worried. The students were safe at the JNV, Junapani and all facilities were provided to them at the hostel.

Bengaluru, Apr 27: A 50-year old coronavirus patient allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of a hospital building here on Monday, police said.

The patient jumped from the trauma ward of the Victoria Hospital, a senior police official said.

According to hospital sources, the man, who was admitted with acute respiratory problem on Friday, was also suffering from kidney problems.

This morning, he jumped off the fifth floor of the building, they said.

Further investigations are on, police said.

Bengaluru, May 27: Mebina Michael, who contested in Pyate Hudgir Halli Life season 4, is killed in a road accident on Tuesday. The incident occurred on National Highway 75 at 4.30 pm in Devanahalli in Nagamangala taluk, Mandya district.

As per the reports, Mubiena along with two others were travelling to Somavarpet from Bengaluru. Their car collided with a tractor, which was taking a U-turn, they were immediately rushed to the Adichunchanagiri Medical College hospital.

Later, the injured were shifted to a private hospital in Bengaluru for further treatment and Mebina died on the way, while the two are are battling for lives with serious injuries. A case has been filed at Bellur police station.
