Keralite who had worked as a cop in Bahrain held for Bengaluru jewellery shop theft

Bengaluru: Jul 19: The Commercial Street police on Monday arrested a dismissed constable of the Bahrain police on the charge of stealing a set of six gold bangles from a jewellery shop on June 25.

The police gave the name of the arrested as Pilakal Nazir (55), a native of Kerala and resident of New Gurappanapalya here. He is a habitual offender and has cases against him in 11 police stations. The police said Nazir used to work as a police constable in Bahrain.

Posing as a businessman, Nazir went to Malabar Gold and Diamond shop on Commercial Street and escaped with a pack of six gold bangles, concealing it in his blazer. The Commercial Street police, who obtained the CCTV footage, identified Nazir. They set up a special team led by Inspector M Ramesh to track him down. The police finally nabbed Nazir on Monday.

The police have recovered four gold bangles worth Rs 3 lakh from him, along with a motorcycle and a scooter which he had stolen from a showroom in BTM layout.

Nazir was earlier arrested by the Madiwala police on charges of stealing a car from a showroom in Tamil Nadu after taking the car out for a test drive. He had come out on bail recently from Bengaluru Central Prisons at Parappana Agrahara, the police said.

It is learnt that he had worked as police constable in Bahrain from 1998 to 2006. He returned to Bengaluru after being sacked from the job. He has around a dozen cases against him in city police stations and one in Chennai.

Guna (MP),  Jun 27: A 20-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly eloping with her minor partner and "marrying" her at Guna town in Madhya Pradesh, police said on Saturday.

The matter came to light, when a resident of Budhe Balaji area approached the Kotwali police station on Monday with a complaint that his 17-year-old daughter had gone missing, additional superintendent of police T S Baghel said.

On investigation, it was found that a relative from a village Shivpuri district, who was living with the family, was also missing, he said.

A team was sent to the village and the duo was caught on Friday, the official said, adding that the woman had married the minor, who claimed that she had eloped of her own volition.

The woman was arrested under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, while the minor was sent back to her family after counselling.

Yavatmal, May 19: Four migrant workers were killed and 15 others were injured after a bus they were travelling in crashed into a truck in Yavatmal on Tuesday morning.

The bus was travelling from Solapur to Jharkhand. More details are currently awaited.

This comes amid nationwide COVID-19 lockdown has been extended to May 31, albeit with some relaxations.

New Delhi, Jun 8: A 10-month-old girl allegedly lost her life in an accident in West Delhi's Tilak Nagar area, the police said on Sunday.

"The incident took place when the baby was in the compound of the parking area at the ground floor of her residence and the driver of Mercedes Benz was reversing the car," a police official said.

The deceased was identified as Radhika, whose father Rakesh used to work as the security guard in the said residence.

The unfortunate incident occurred at around 3.30 p.m. in the afternoon following which the baby was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital where she was declared brought dead.

The owner of the said Mercedes Benz SUV is identified as Jassbir Singh who is into elevator business. At the time of the incident, his driver Akhilesh was driving the said vehicle.

"The offending vehicle has also been taken into possession and the FSL team is being summoned for inspection. Investigation in this matter is underway," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) West Delhi.
