Kids' death-Embarrassed Yogi govt in cover up mode

Lucknow, Sept 5: With over 350 kids dying, many from an alleged shortage of oxygen, at two state hospitals in Gorakhpur and Farrukhabad within a period of one month, an embarrassed Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath, seems to have launched a cover up exercise.

UP government's ''flip-flop'' was clearly exposed on the deaths at Farrukhabad district hospital, where as many as 49 kids, many of them new born, died allegedly owing to shortage of oxygen and medicine within a span of one month, on the question of acting against the doctors.

The state government, which had, on Monday afternoon, directed for registration of FIRs against the chief medical officer (CMO) and the chief medical superintendent of the hospital after the magisterial probe revealed that the deaths were caused by shortage of oxygen and medicine, made a complete u-turn by the evening and stayed action on the FIRs.

The government rejected the report of the Farrukhabad district magistrate apparently fearing a massive loss of face after Gorakhpur tragedy after ordered his transfer. It even claimed that there was a ''deliberate attempt'' to make it ''sensational''.

Interestingly the government officials had also rejected the Gorakhpur DM probe report in the matter of death of 30 children owing allegedly to a shortage of oxygen at BRD Medical College. Then also the DM report had admitted that supply of oxygen had been disrupted at the hospital for over two hours. 

Later a high-level team headed by the chief secretary probed the tragedy and its report denied that oxygen shortage had caused any death. 

Now again a high-level team would probe the deaths at Farrukhabad district hospital.

The doctors at the district hospital did not attend the OPD on Tuesday in protest against registration of cases against the CMO and CMS. They have threatened to resign if the cases are not withdrawn.

New Delhi, Mar 22: The central government on Sunday decided to suspend all metro train services across the country till March 31 in view of coronavirus outbreak.

In a message to managing directors of all metro train corporations, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Durga Shanker Mishra said this is being done in continuation of suspending metro services during 'Janta Curfew'.

"In view of the current global pandemic of this Corona Virus & for containing its further spread through inter-personal proximity, it has been decided to close down metro rail services on all operational networks across the country till 31 March 2020," Mishra tweeted.

In another tweet, he said by the act of social distancing, people can protect themselves and their dear ones, and win the fight against COVID-19.

India reported three more coronavirus deaths on Sunday, including the first casualty from Bihar, taking the toll to seven and the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 341, officials said.

New Delhi, Jul 22: With a spike of 37,724 cases and 648 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of COVID-19 cases in India stands at 11,92,915, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The total number of cases includes 4,11,133 active cases, 7,53,050 cured/discharged/migrated and 28,732 deaths, the Health Ministry informed.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with 3,27,031 cases and 12,276 deaths.
The second worst-hit state, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,80,643 COVID-19 cases so far while Delhi has reported 1,25,096 cases, according to the Ministry.

Other states that have witnessed a higher number of COVID-19 positive cases include, Andhra Pradesh with 58,668 cases, Karnataka with 71,069 while Telangana has reported 47,705 COVID-19 positive cases.

Meanwhile, as per the information provided by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the total number of samples tested up to July 21 is 1,47,24, 546 including 3,43,243 samples tested yesterday.

New Delhi, Aug 2: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday issued fresh guidelines for international passengers coming to India amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The new guidelines will be implemented from 12:01 am on August 8.

The ministry has also asked all passengers to submit a self-declaration form online at least 72 hours before travel.

"All travellers should submit self-declaration form on the on the online portal (www.newdelhiairport.in) at least 72hours before the scheduled travel," the guidelines said.

It also said that those coming to India must give an undertaking that they would undergo mandatory quarantine for 14 days as prescribed by the government. "They should also give an undertaking on the portal that they would undergo mandatory quarantine for 14 days i.e. 7 days paid institutional quarantine at their own cost, followed by 7 days isolation at home with self-monitoring of health," it added.

Giving exemptions in some cases, the guidelines mentioned, "Only for compelling reasons/cases of human distress such as pregnancy, death in the family. Serious illness and parent (s) with children of 10 years or below, home quarantine may be permitted for 14 days."

"If they wish to seek such exemption, they shall apply to the online portal at least 72 hours before boarding. The decision taken by the government as communicated on the online portal will be final," it said further.

The guidelines further said that travellers could request for exemption from institutional quarantine by submitting a negative RT-PCR test report on arrival.

"This test should have been conducted within 96 hours prior to undertaking the journey. The test report should be uploaded on the portal for consideration," it added.

Passengers have also been asked to download the Aarogya Setu app on their mobile phones.
