Kannur, Mar 24: A country-made bomb, which was hidden inside the compound of a house of a local RSS functionary, exploded prematurely at Naduvil under the Kudiyanmala police station limits in Kannur district of Kerala yesterday injuring at least two children.

The injured have been identified as Gokul, 7, son of RSS functionary M. Shibu, and his relative Kajinraj, 12, son of Kumar. They had come to their relative Shibu’s house where the incident occurred around 1.30 p.m.

The police said the children who suffered serious burns were admitted to a private hospital here.

According to the police, the crude bomb that was hidden beneath a heap of rubble on the compound of the house exploded when the two children were searching for some materials for making a bird cage.

“As soon as we got the information of the blast, we rushed to the spot and raided the house of Shibu,” Kudiyanmala sub-inspector P Pramod said when contacted over phone.

The police unearthed bomb-making materials, including 3 kg of aluminium powder, 600 gm of gunpowder and fuse wire, as also seven swords, a hand axe and an iron rod, he said.

The police suspect that Shibu’s house is being used as a place for hiding bombs, bomb-making materials and weapons. The police strengthened the vigil in the area in the wake of the incident.

Mysuru, Feb 29: More than 7,000 industrialists and entrepreneurs have left the country due to a deficit of trust, and incidents like the violence that rocked northeast Delhi will only affect the economy further, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of Art of Living Foundation, said on Friday.

Sri Sri was speaking at a corporate wellness conference on the theme, 'Wellness and Wellbeing for a Progressive Nation', hosted by CII in Mysuru. He said an atmosphere of fear and mistrust pervades the country and does not augur well for the economy.

"Bankers, too, are suspicious of everyone and not extending loans to industrialists. This has posed lots of problems," he said. "This attitude among bank officials should go as life depends on trust. When there is a deficiency of trust, there is a possibility of the economy slowing down," Sri Sri added

He said society is now facing two important issues - aggression and depression. "Some people stage protests and pelt stones which happened recently in Delhi. This is really unfortunate," he said, adding, "Fear lurks in the nation's capital, which is being used by many to create terror. This will affect the economy. No country will prosper without peace."

Wellness is the need of the hour, he said, adding, "Corporates used to spend half their health to gain wealth and spend half their wealth to regain their health. This isn't good economics. We have to talk and convince people to invest in wellness."

Mangaluru, Jul 13: Air India Express flight brought around 170 passengers from Bahrain to Mangaluru under Vande Bharat Mission yesterday.

This is the first VBM flight from Bahrain to Mangaluru. The flight took off from Bahrain at 10 am on Sunday and landed at Mangaluru International airport at 4.45 pm.

Even though thousands of Indian expatriates from other gulf countries were brought to Mangaluru in past few weeks, no flight was arranged from Bahrain so far. Hence, several Mangalureans including senior citizens, women and patients were stranded in Bahrain for months together.

Local entrepreneur and president of Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Mohammed Mansoor, who saw the plight of the hapless Indian expatriates in Bahrain had discussions with the Indian embassy in Bahrain and convinced it to arrange a special Air India Express flight under the Vande Bharat Mission.

IOC, along with the cooperation of ‘KHK Heroes’ had arranged meal kits for passengers during their flight to Mangaluru. IOC had also contacted all the Mangaluru-based NRIs who wanted to fly back to India and made a list with the help of Indian embassy to avoid any untoward incidents.

IOC had also given details of hotels to be quarantined in Mangaluru and Udupi, names of nodal officers to be contacted and emergency telephone numbers. The passengers were given a warm farewell by the office bearers of IOC from Bahrain international airport.

The effort taken by Mohammed Mansoor, president of IOC is lauded by all. All the passengers who travelled by the flight have thanked IOC and its office bearers whole heartedly.
