KSE?holds Kuruba leaders' meet, talks Ahinda to counter BSY

August 9, 2016

Bengaluru, Aug 9: In a new turn to the tussle between senior BJP leaders B?S?Yeddyurappa and K S?Eshwarappa, the latter convened a meeting of leaders of the Kuruba community and also played the “Ahinda” card on Monday.

BSYEshwarappa, who belongs to the Kuruba community, is cut up with Yeddyurappa for sidelining him while appointing office-bearers to the Shivamogga unit of the party.

Yeddyurappa has appointed S Rudre Gowda as the district president of the party. Gowda had contested as the KJP nominee against Eshwarappa in the 2013 Assembly elections.

Eshwarappa has been boycotting key meetings of the party to register his unhappiness. On Monday,?Eshwarappa convened a meeting to revive the Sangolli Rayanna Brigade, a registered but defunct social service organisation, apparently to send a message to Yeddyurappa that he cannot be taken for granted. Addressing the gathering, Eshwarappa said the brigade will take up district-wise enrolment drives soon. The brigade will not be restricted to the Kuruba community. Those belonging to minority, other backward classes and dalits can also enrol themselves with the brigade. It will hold a convention in Haveri during the third week of September, he said.

Political observers feel that?Eshwarappa is trying to play the Ahinda card (Kannada acronym for minorities, backward classes and dalits) and emerge as a leader of these communities and consolidate his position in the party.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, when he was in the JD(S), consolidated his position in politics by conducting Ahinda meetings. It paid him dividends as he emerged as an Ahinda leader.

Eshwarappa had recently complained to the party leadership against the style of functioning of Yeddyurappa. It is said that many party leaders including Bhanuprakash, Raghunath Rao Malkapure and Somanna Bevinamarad endorsed Eshwarappa's view before the party leadership.

Bengaluru, Feb 29: The BJP leaders in Karnataka rallied behind Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal amid a controversy over his remarks that centenarian freedom fighter HS Doreswamy was a "Pakistani agent."

The saffron party leaders have extended support to Yatnal, days after he called Doreswamy a "fake freedom fighter" who behaves like a "Pakistani agent".

Yatnal made the comments at a press conference on February 25 while reacting to a query on a public meeting organised by the Congress titled 'Save the Constitution'.

"There are many fake freedom fighters. There is one in Bengaluru. Now we have to say what Doreswamy is. Where is that old man? He behaves like a Pakistan agent," Patil had said.

"Doreswamy is an elderly person and senior to all. He had participated in various agitations. He should also see what to talk and who will be hurt with those statements. We have all seen what he said about Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar told reporters in Kodagu on Saturday reacting to Yatnal's outburst against Doreswamy.

Noting that the statements were made in bitter taste, Kumar said, "If you speak unpleasant (things), you will hear unpleasant."

Bellary City MLA G Somashekara Reddy too backed Yatnal saying that the his statement was appropriate. "There is nothing wrong in his statement. It is absolutely correct. I support him. It is not just okay to be a freedom fighter, but he should be a 'Deshbhakt' (patriot) too, who respects the unity and integrity of the nation."

On Friday, another BJP Minister KS Eshwarappa slammed Doreswamy alleging that he had visited Amulya Leona's residence and shared a good relationship with her family.

Leona had raised 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogans at an anti-CAA event here on February 21, taking everybody present by shock and dismay.

"We respect Doreswamy but he dances to the tune of Congress and supports whatever their leaders say," Eshwarappa said.

Mr Bhandary said that after the reopening of the Park, the number of visitors has drastically decreased due to corona scare.

“There are around 100 staff and over 30 caretakers at the zoo. After closing the zoo, only essential staff will come to the zoo take care of the animals. We are planning to reopen it for visitors on August 1,” he said.

"About Kashmir, it is better to say less as nobody is talking about it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not talking about it and nothing is happening. It does not look good," he told media.

"I think leaders should be brought to the table and discussion on issues should take place. Do whatever has to be done for the country," he added.
