Bengaluru Jan 3: A selection committee headed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah decided to appoint D H Waghela, former chief justice of the Karnataka High Court, as the chairman of the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC).
The post has been lying vacant for the last five years after Justice S R Nayak demitted office in 2012.
Siddaramaiah announced the decision after chairing a meeting of the selection committee comprising Legislative Assembly Speaker K B Koliwad, Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy, leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Jagadish Shettar and Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy.
After Nayak's exit, KSHRC member Meera Saxena had been appointed as the acting chairperson. She stepped down on November 20, 2017, after completing her term.
