KSRTC?collected Rs 1.85-cr penalty from public smokers in 4 yrs

Bengaluru, Jun 1: In the past four years, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has collected more than Rs 1.85 crore as fine from violators who were caught smoking in public places. Around 92,000 passengers have been penalised so far.ksrtc

KSRTC has been imposing a penalty of Rs 200 for smoking in public places. It released the information at a programme on Wednesday to observe 'World No Tobacco Day' at the satellite bus stand on Mysuru Road.

The event organised by KSRTC, 'World No Tobacco Day 2017'- A threat to Development, was launched by pouring water on tobacco products collected during the enforcement drive at bus stands.

Mangaluru, May 2:  Fishermen in the coastal districts fear that the fishing season ending on May 31 every year might be rescheduled early this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement department of fisheries on sturday said fishing season is closed for 61 days every year before the arrival of the monsoon.

As per the data with the Fisheries Department, this year the number of fishes caught has set a record.

Bengaluru, Mar 23: The Karnataka Government will impose stricter restrictions till March 31 to tackle the spread of COVID-19, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said on Monday.

''While all non-essential government establishments will also be closed from today, we are discussing on whether there should be a total shutdown similar to what was in place on Sunday during 'Janata Curfew'. We will take a call on this after discussing this with Opposition leaders by evening,'' he added.

Addressing press persons after a meeting with doctors and experts from private hospitals, the Chief Minister said free food will be served to the poor in Indira Canteens all through the day.

Bengaluru, Apr 25: Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu on Saturday initiated Phase I clinical trials to use plasma therapy for COVID-19 patients at city-based BMC Victoria Hospital.

Sriramulu was accompanied by Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar.

"Karnataka has taken a lead role as we initiate Phase I clinical trials to use Convalescent Plasma Therapy for severe COVID-19 infected patients. BMC Victoria hospital took the first step today. We are determined to vanquish this enemy of mankind," Sriramulu said in a tweet.

"I wish our team of doctors at BMC Victoria hospital and team led by Dr US Vishal Rao a great success. This will be a torchbearer in our fight against Corona," he said in another tweet.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the state has so far reported 474 confirmed cases of COVID-19 which include 152 discharged or cured patients and 18 deaths.
