Kumaraswamy earmarks Rs 5 Cr for Mahatma Gandhi 150th Birth Anniversary

Bengaluru, Feb 8: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today announced allocation of Rs 5 crore to the Department of Information towards celebration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.

In his presentation of the State budget for 2019-20 in the Legislative Assembly, he said that the Department of Information will chalk out programmes to mark the birth anniversary of the Father of the nation.

While announcing a budgetary grant of Rs 25 crore to establish a world class Cultural and Heritage Centre at Veerapur, the birth place of Shivakumar Swamiji, of the Siddaganga mutt, Tumakuru, who had passed away recently, he promised to develop Banandur Village, the birth place of Balagangadhara Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Mutt, in Bidadi taluk of Ramanagara district.

Ballari, Jan 6: Two members of a family were killed in a cylinder explosion at their home in Sanjeevarayana Kote, here on Monday morning, police said.

The deceased were identified as Parvathi and her daughter Huliyamma.

The incident took place when the two were in the kitchen. Fire tenders were rushed to the rescue.

Bengaluru, May 13: Gym and hotels, which had remained closed due to lockdown to combat spread of Coronavirus, would be allowed to function from May 17, Karnataka Minister for Tourism C T Ravi said on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media, after a meeting with Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa here he said that the Chief Minister has agreed to give permission to gym, hotels and golf clubs to function and as they have assured to maintain social distance and follow other guidelines of the lockdown.

Mr Ravi, who is also Minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports, further said that reopening of hotel industry would help in attracting tourists. Opening of gym and fitness centre was important for sports persons and regular exercisers.

Mangaluru, May 21: The third repatriation flight from Dubai to Mangaluru will operate on Saturday, May 23, confirmed union minister D V Sadananda Gowda. This will operate via Bengaluru.

The first and second direct repatriation flights from Dubai had landed at Mangaluru International Airport on May 12 and May 18. There were more than 175 passengers on board each of these flights.

On May 23, Air India flight (IX 0384) will take off at Dubai at 4:30 p.m. and land at Bengaluru at 9:50 p.m. It will again take off at 10:50 p.m. and land at Mangaluru at 11:45 p.m.

However, ministry of civil aviation sources said that no final decision has been taken about carrying passengers by these flights to Mangaluru.
